This looks just like an audio CD and is used to carry up to 740MB of computer data, including images and software.
CD-ROM
Compact Disk Read Only Memory allows you only to read what is on the compact disk.
compactflash(r) card
Is a proprietary name for describing flash memory.
CD-ROM - Stands for "CD-Read Only Memory." This is a CD that cannot be over-written, such as any CD on which software is provided.
CD-RW - Stands for "CD-ReWritable" - a CD on which you can record data more than once.
CD-ROM
Compact disk read-only memory, a system for recording, storing, and retrieving data on a compact disk. This can then be read using an optical drive. A CD-ROM can only be written once. Compare with CD-RW.
CD-RW ...
CD-ROM. Compact disc with read-only memory.

CD-ROM
Compact Disc-read Only Memory. A CD-ROM drives uses the CD (compact disc) format as a computer storage medium. One CD can store 640 megabytes of data and other mixed media on a disc about the size of a traditional 5-1/4 in. floppy disk.
CD-ROM ( Compact Disk -Read Only Memory)
A type of optical disk capable of storing large amounts of data. CD-ROMs are stamped by the vendor, and once stamped they cannot be erased and filled with new data.
A CD-ROM WRITER is a good bet for storing images in a permanent form, e.g., for photo libraries, back-up purposes and if your hard drive goes down, CAPUT, you'll still have your images safe. Nothing is ever easy. There are two types of CDROM writer.

The biggest mistake beginners make in digital photography is thinking that once they've downloaded their images into their computer they can erase the memory card and enjoy their photos for ever after.
All you need on the CD-ROM are the j-peg (or tiff or giff) files. You no longer need to include software to open the images.

A CD-ROM disc that contains video and audio. Typically a VCD can hold about 74 minutes (650MB) of video and stereo quality audio. The video and audio are stored in MPEG-1 format and follow certain standards (White Book).
There seems to be a small cottage industry in scanning camera manuals and selling CD-ROMs to users.

There are three formats: CD-ROM is read-only, CD-R is recordable or write once, read many (worm), and CD-RW is rewriteable. The RW format is not recommended for archiving digital image files because they can be accidentally over-written or erased.

Will our digital photos survive for our children and grandchildren to enjoy? Yes, but only if we know how to take care of them properly... which means a bit more than simply burning them to CD-ROM and forgetting about them.
