Image enhancement - the basics
Many digital images need some sort of mild tweaking before they look their best. We will take a look at a few basic techniques needed to enhance the image before it is being printed or output in any other way.

SUBJECT PLACEMENT
Sometimes good composition is obtained by placing the center of interest in the geometrical center of the picture; it is generally not a good idea to place it there.

Portrait Composition and Subject Placement As in every type of photography, in portraiture there must be one, and only one, principal point of interest. Naturally, in a portrait, this is the subject's face.

First up would be a replacement to the AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8G VR. While this is indeed an excellent lens, it is highly susceptible to flare whenever the sun is in front of the lens.

There is some improvement in the contrast, but the area needs further enhancement. A steeper curve could be used, but it would make the rest of the image too contrasty. Luckily, there is another solution that uses the channels to improve the contrast.

cement exposing method
an exposing technique involving the temporary securing of the film positive or hand made positive to the photoscreen film with rubber cement prior to exposure.
CEN
abbreviation for European Committee for Standardization.

Placement
After deciding the method of conveying you have to determine the placement of the subject in the photograph. All the basic rules of photography still apply to action photography.

Placement
What do you want to say about the subject? Where and how you place your subject in the photo's composition says a lot. Dead center is a reliable placement, but it may depend on the subject and what you want the photo to convey.

Placement
Placement is a bit more involved than bracketing, but once gotten used to, is an easy method of improving your negatives. Placement employs the dictum of exposing for shadow areas and printing for highlights.

Enhancement. A term that refers to changes in brightness, color and contrast that are designed to improve the overall look of a digital image.

Enhancement
The improvement of an image either through colour and/or density change.

Placement
Perhaps you've heard of the Rule of Thirds. The Rule of Thirds states that the main element of an image should be at a point within the frame of view that places it one-third of the way into the photo.

Placement of colors, light and dark masses, or large and small objects in a picture to create harmony and equilibrium. Description applied to colour films to indicate their ability to produce acceptable colour response in various types of lighting.

Placement is also crucial. For example, compare these two pictures:
As we've said in other articles on this Web site, when you photograph a moving object always allow space in front of it into which it can move – that is, provide lead room.

Displacement: Camera displacements are a feature of Large Format studio cameras that allow the relationship between the film plane and the lens plane to be altered in order to alter and control the perspective of the image.

The placement of two objects close together or side by side for comparison or contrast. At times to illustrate the scale in an image, or to contrast old and new, old and young, tall and short, etc.

Subject Placement
Once you have decided whether you will freeze the action, blur the action, or blend the two styles you must determine the subject placement in your image.

Subject placement: There are three "centers" in a frame: center-top, which is fine; center-bottom, which is fine; and center-center, otherwise known as "bulls-eye" composition, which is mostly not fine.

Taking placement of your subject furthur, place important elements in the picture following the "golden mean". The golden mean is a ratio that is abundant in nature and is about .6. Following the golden mean, place your subject .6 or .

Kellner eyepieces consist of a small achromat -- a cemented doublet -- near your eye, and a simple lens at the far end of the eyepiece.

The rule of thirds addresses the placement of your subject. When composing your image, mentally divide the image into thirds in both the horizontal and vertical directions. This will form an imaginary grid, much like a tic-tac-toe board.

Taking the time to find a pleasing and effective placement for your main subject is crucial to the success of your travel photographs. One method that artists have been using for centuries is the rule of thirds.

Everything looked good, so I made an announcement to the party about how it worked and then walked away. All evening I heard laughing and the flashes were popping almost constantly.
