CF Cards contain flash memory that will retain the information even when power is removed. They have no moving parts whatsoever and are extremely reliable and durable.
CF cards also have an onboard microcontroller for the memory which takes some load off the host, but this is currently more of theoretical interest than practical significance.

Does the 16GB CF card suitable to be used in A100? How many pictures can be taken with this capacity if shoot in jpeg format image size : L:10M quality : fine? Which brand is good if anyone can suggest?
Also, how many CF cards are enough for a six-week stay with limited computer access? I think 2 4GB cards aren't going to be enough!

Load 1st roll, or CF card and set the shutter on B (bulb). Use your viewfinder to compose on the first few bursts - frame to cover about 50% more than the first few bursts cover. DON'T TAKE ANY PICTURES YET !!! ...

Microdrives are not as fast as the high-end CompactFlash cards; they generally operate at around 4-6 megabytes per second while high-end CF cards can operate at 20 megabytes per second.

As of 2006 we have CF cards up to 8GB and SD cards up to 4GB. To access cards with capacity beyond 2GB requires the use of the FAT32 file system.
Far more costly than an old speedlight are the images on your CF card or hard drive. On an important assignment, make sure you back up images daily and keep one set stored on a different computer or in different location on a separate drive.
