Chrominance, or chroma, is the second image aspect that portrays the image's color information. Using various tools, it's possible not only to adjust a color's depth, but also its brightness and hue. What's the point?
Chrominance - The difference between a color and a specified reference color having a specified chromaticity.
Clipping - A defect in images, where the shadows cut off white or black, instead of fading out smoothly.

Chrominance The color parameters of an image. Usually represented by hue and saturation. Clear Aperture The surface area of an optical filter which is free of any defects or obstructions.
YUV is a color model which uses two components to represent the color information, luma (the strength of the light per area) and the chrominance, or proportion of color (chroma), where the chrominance again consists of two components.
Color Noise Better known as chrominance signal-to-noise ratio. A measure of how accurately the color signals are reproduced.
Today's RAW processing software is also good enough to remove most chrominance noise (the unpleasant coloured specks you see in noisy photos) leaving an aesthetically pleasing, film grain-like effect.

Noise exhibits itself as luminance and chrominance noise. Luminance noise is the digital equivalent of film grain, and appears as brightness variations. Chrominance noise (or colour noise) appears as coloured splotches.

First, the file is changed from an RGB model to a luminance/chrominance model (one channel of tonal information and two channels of color information). Second, the compression algorithm breaks the image into 8 pixel by 8 pixel squares (JPEG squares).
The first one being storage of luminance information while the second records the chrominance information. You might not believe it but that camera can accommodate a 720,000-pixel image stored on the disk in field or frame mode.
Look at any area with deep shadow, and if you see specks of red, blue and green color you are seeing "chrominance noise.

The Camera RAW 6 plug in for Photoshop CS5 has some expanded controls for noise reduction-not only noise in the luminance (brightness) region, but also in the chrominance (color) region.
YCC: A colorspace used in Photo-CD that is somewhat similar to LAB color in that it uses a Luminance channel to define the tones and details of the image. YCC also uses two chrominance channels to define the color of the image.

Delete both the "a" and "b" channels to leave only the lightness channel ("a" and "b" refer the red-green and blue-yellow shift, or "chrominance").
