The cine film was cheap and unused short cut-off bits would certainly be available early on for use in small cameras which were easily portable in comparison the common large-format plate cameras of the time.
Oskar Barnack, who was in charge of research and development at Leitz, decided to investigate using 35mm cine film for still cameras while attempting to build a compact camera capable of making high-quality enlargements.
The GH2's frame size is slightly smaller than 35mm cine film, but much larger than the sensors in most pro camcorders. So-called 'full frame' sensors (such as that used in the Canon 5D Mark II) are larger again.
AF-S, or might it be a new 16 - 40mm f/4 AF-S for the not yet announced double-frame D3X? I say double-frame as we Hollywood folks refer to the old 35mm still format, which uses two frames of movie film. The DX sensor is about the same as cine film.
