The Control Ring (which, like the rest of the camera, is made of metal) rotates in a pleasingly smooth manner and has around 36 gentle click stops (virtually everything it controls has discrete, rather than continuously variable values).

Diaphragm is five-bladed without click stops from f/2.8 to f/22.
Focus is by the wheel integral with the film advance lever on the top of the camera.

There are click stops at various detent positions, and a spring-loaded bounce latch keeps the flash head pointed head-on. The 580EX goes even further.
