In close up shots, should we use a small or large aperture? It's really up to you and the effect you are trying to achieve.
If you want to isolate your subject from a distracting background, then use a large aperture for a shallow depth of field.

The term macro is used more loosely these days, and usually refers to the ability to get close up shots (not necessarily life size). Typical macro subjects are flowers and insects.
When shooting close up, the degree of error can lead to incorrectly framed images. Some cameras feature a viewfinder with correction markings to prevent this while others automatically compensate for the parallax effect.
