Coated Lens A lens covered with a very thin layer of transparent material that reduces the amount of light reflected by the surface of the lens. A coated lens is faster (transmits more light) than an uncoated lens.

COATED LENS - A lens that has a thin layer of transparent substance applied to its surface to reduce light reflection from the surface.

Coated Free Sheet: A paper containing less than 10% groundwood pulp.
Coin Envelope: Small Catalog envelope.

coated lens
a camera lens that has been coated with an ultra-thin film, usually bluish in color to minimize glare or flare from extraneous lights not a color correction method.

-Coated lens - lens with air-glass surfaces which have been coated with magnesium fluoride to reduce lens flare.

Multicoated lens and filter surfaces
It's sometimes said that it's more difficult to clean multicoated lenses and filters than uncoated versions, but that isn't true.

Cast coated papers have a coating that hardens in contact with a polished chrome surface that gives it an exceptionally glossy finish.

Resin Coated Paper: Photographic paper that has thin coating of plastic resin on the backside of the paper and in between the emulsion and paper support.

Resin-coated (RC). Bromide paper Bromide paper having a water-repellent plastic base. RC papers require less washing, dry more rapidly and generally process faster than fibre-based papers.

I use coated UV filters, mostly as protectors for the front elements of my lenses, and I like to use circular polarizer when appropriate for some of my outdoor photography. I also have a set of split neutral density filters.

I find that coated watercolour paper gives the best results, as the ink bleeds less than it does on an uncoated paper which can make the finished result a little unsightly.

[edit] Resin-coated papers (RC)
The paper base of resin-coated papers is sealed by two polyethylene layers, making it impenetrable to liquids.

A sturdy metal-coated, spring bound click 'n' slide door covers the battery compartment. The Coolpix 5200 uses an EL-EL5 rechargeable lithium ion battery pack ( charger included, of course).

If you're one of those photographers, you should use a multicoated UV filter, which helps curb any additional image degradation, or flare, that you might otherwise get from the sun or reflective light sources. Multicoating can ensure that 99.

Should I buy a coated or an uncoated filter?
Nearly all lenses sold today for 35mm SLRs are coated with optical coatings that are designed to reduce internal reflections. This is pretty critical for image quality - particularly contrast and flare.

Modern lenses are coated with a very thin layer of antireflective material (like magnesium fluoride or calcium fluoride). This lens coating is applied to the each element of a lens which has a surface exposed to air.

Negative
Film coated with a light sensitive emulsion that after exposure and processing produces the images taken with the camera in complementary values.

Photographic papers used in Navy imaging facilities are either coated with polyethylene or are resin-coated. These papers are coated on both sides of the base.

1837: Louis Daguerre creates images on silver-plated copper, coated with silver iodide and "developed" with warmed mercury; ...

Ink jet papers need to be specially coated and should have excellent ink adherence, because ink jet inks are more absorbent than toners or solid inks.
They should be scratch and kink resistant and have high densities for vibrant colors.

2X: KENKO Teleplus Pro 300 converters are made with high quality multicoated optical glass supplied by Hoya corporation, the worlds largest manufacturer of optical glass.

The film base is usually plastic such as tri-acetate or polyester which is coated with a light sensitive emulsion. The emulsion consists of gelatin containing light sensitive silver halide crystals such as silver bromide and silver chloride.

The photo-sensitive material called photo-resist coated on the wafer goes into an exposed state by absorbing a single photon.

Meanwhile, a plate coated with a film of gelatin was soaked in a metol developer. The photographic plate was then immersed face down in the developer and after about five seconds was pressed into contact with the gelatin plate.

As a negative process, a piece of clear glass is coated with a very thin layer of iodized collodion (made from gun-cotton [nitrocellulose] dissolved in ether and alcohol, mixed with potassium iodide).

"His images are the candy-coated connective tissue of the modern pop culture animal," one commentator noted midway through the following decade.

Once coated, the paper can either be left to dry by air in a darkened room or heat dried with a hair dryer.

Popular sizes are usually blue-coated to give light approximating to daylight. Flash bulbs come in various sizes and types. All work by burning metal' foil in an oxygen 'atmosphere within the glass bulb.

The most common type for general use is RC, or resin coated. The paper stock is coated with a resin that prevents absorption of liquids, in particular chemistry.

He then wiped the plate with a rag that was coated in Oil of Lavender; a popular solvent of the day. The oil dissolved the soft, unexposed bitumen, revealing the metallic pewter underneath.

In 1996 Hoya introduced its line of Super Multi-Coated S-HMC filters. Consisting of the Skylight 1B, UV (0), ND 2X, ND4X, and a low profile circular polarizer.

Elements (pixels) are coated alternately with RGB filters. This pattern may be in stripes or a mosaic. Some arrays have twice as many green elements as red or blue creating an apparently more detailed image because the eye is more sensitive to green.

These are usually thin metal rods coated with a combination of fuel, an oxidizer, powdered metal - usually iron, steel, or aluminum that creates the sparks, and a binder to hold all this stuff onto the rod.

Film is merely an acetate base that has been coated with a light-sensitive emulsion. When a picture is taken, light (hopefully focused light) falls on the film in an amount determined by the lens aperture and camera's shutter duration.

Filters need to be coated to reduce flare, and this reduces (slightly) the amount of light that passes through the lens.Filters are (normally) fitted at the very front of a lens and because of this they ‘attract' flare.

Inkjet papers are typically comprised of sandwiched layers of ink-absorbing materials, usually over a resin-coated base. The thicker the paper, the heavier the weight, measured in grams per square meter (gsm), a good reference of a paper's durability.

The inner surface of the CRT is coated with phosphors, which glow and produce light when hit by an electron beam.

This is a special filter made of either glass or mylar coated with a virtually opaque layer of aluminum. A solar filter cuts down sunlight by 99.9999%. It transmits only about 1/1000th of one percent of the light.

Earlier this year though, this same company released a new cleaning solution called E2 for cameras featuring something known as an Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) coated sensor.

Film is a gelatin acetate that is coated with light-sensitive metal halide crystals that when exposed to light transform and re-align themselves to "preserve" the image in the coating.

Hard disk - An internal data storage device made of hard aluminium disks coated with iron oxide. Most commonly used inside computers, hard disks have a much larger data capacity for a given price than flash RAM.

LCD - The LCD on some digicams is difficult to see in bright sunlight. Digicams with a coated LCD help a lot. On the other hand, many digital cameras' LCDs are difficult to see in low light.

The thing I look for in a ‘skylight' or UV filter is multicoating. I use HOYA multicoated filters on all but my most wide-angle lenses (where they can cause vignetting).
