Color fringing
Although it only affects wide angle shots and is only really a problem when shooting at wider apertures, the E550 Zoom does exhibit very pronounced purple fringing that is visible both on--screen and in larger prints.

Color fringing (lateral colors at the image borders) does leave a distinctive clue in the MTF, but you need to examine a series of MTF curves measured at different apertures to detect it.

Most photographers tend to work in an RGB color space (e.g., sRGB or Adobe RGB). RGB color spaces have three channels, one for each of the three colors (i.e., red, green, and blue).

Usage: Color fringing correction is turned on/off by ticking the corresponding checkbox in the processing options dialog.

Also known as color fringing, this problem is caused when the camera lens do not focus the different wavelengths of light onto the exact same focal plane.

Also known as color fringing, chromatic aberration occurs when the collective color wavelengths of an image fail to focus on a common plane.

But for digital the result can be color inaccuracy--normally visible as reduced saturation--or in extreme cases even color fringing. There is a design for lenses which minimizes this effect.

Aberration, also known as "color fringing," refers to the effect in which light passing through a lens becomes blurred and produces a fuzzy image on the film.

Really good optics minimize color fringing, but some fringing is inevitable, especially when corner areas of an image are highly magnified.

One minor negative of the Tokina lens is color fringing, which is visible in the 200-percent crop (bottom right). Look at the black vertical line that turns blue along the edge of the slate.

Red / Cyan - compensates for red/cyan color fringing.
Blue / Yellow - compensates for blue/yellow color fringing.
Defringe - choose Highlight Edges or All Edges to see what produces the better result.

I also use the perspective controls in PSCS3 to correct distortion and correct any color fringing and vignetting. Perspective corrections have a use beyond the obvious architectural applications.

The chromatic aberration tool set comes in quite handy when you have color fringing in adjoining areas of high contrast. The vignette control tool allows you to compensate for light falloff in the corners of your image.
