Colorimeter Mode The fancier versions of this calibrator will measure and tell you your LCD's native white point. My iBook's native white point is 4,780K, delta uv 0.3 and luminance is 23.4 fL as of December 2005.
colorimeter a device for measuring color values; an optical measurement instrument that responds to color in a manner similar to the human eye by filtering reflected light into its dominate regions of red, green, and blue.
Colorimeter A precision instrument used to accurately measure tristimulus value of a colour in the way the human response system sees colours.
Accuracy-wise, the colorimeter did vary from reading to reading by a small amount. This is probably due to noise in the A to D conversion. You'd have to be incredibly picky to be bothered by it.
If you don't plan to invest into a colorimeter, you should at least order a test image from your lab of choice and calibrate your monitor until the image on your screen looks the same (I highly recommend a colorimeter).
To profile a display, you attach a color measuring device called a spectrophotometer or colorimeter to the display screen. Profiling software then flashes a number of known colors on the display while the device reads each colors' values.
After starting up the profiling software, the colorimeter (also commonly referred to as a "spyder" or "puck") is then stuck to the monitor face where indicated and its cable plugged into a USB port.
The second, more accurate method of color calibration is through the use of a device called a colorimeter. A colorimeter is a device that analyzes the image your monitor is displaying for accuracy.
Monitor calibration kits include a colorimeter or tristimulus device that gets mounted on your monitor, plus wizard-driven software to allow you to easily and efficiently calibrate your monitor.
To create a much more accurate profile, you can use a hardware "colorimeter" which measures the levels of red, green and blue from your monitor and can be used with special software to create a profile. My personal favorite is EZColor 2.
I recommend purchasing the Color Eyes Display Pro DTP-94 bundle, combining the Display Pro software with the DTP-94 colorimeter, which is widely considered to be the most accurate colorimeter for monitor calibration.
It'll be the poor and lazy man's approach, and won't get you the hi-fidelity results you can achieve using professional monitors, IT8 targets, colorimeters, spyders, and other widgets like that -- but it'll be good enough to get the job done, ...
