Something you don't touch on, but would be helpful to me, is how the different platforms affect colour management. I'm running one of the last eMacs (I REALLY like its CRT) and standardly have the monitor set to 2.
For example, by using a colour management system, the data from a scanner is converted into values for a standard colour range. The data is then arranged so that the printer can produce good colour prints.
The Preferences dialog allows you to control various default settings such as the 'user default' set of image adjustments, temporary files, grid lines and colour management settings (colour space used for monitor, local print and CMYK output.
Most colour printers, ink-jet, laser, dye-sublimation, thermal, and crayon printers use these as their printer colours. This is one of the colour management problems for computers. Converting RGB files to CMYK files causes colour shifts.

TIFF
TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) is a common file format used in Digital Photography. This high quality file (which is lossless compared with a JPEG) can also contain colour management profiles and be colour separated.

1 of that standard covers "Colour management Default RGB colour space sRGB." Being international, the wording of the standard uses "colour" rather than the Americanized "color," but the meaning is the same.
