Colour separation
Conversion of RGB colour information into its cyan, magenta, yellow and black constituents.

LITHOGRAPHY - High volume, 4-colour separation, process ink based printing process. Commercially called offset lithography and is the quickest and commonest form of photomechanical reproduction.

The dominating colour separation concept of digital photography's first two decades was developed in 1975 by Kodak's Dr. Bryce Bayer who had the idea of putting a color filter onto each light-sensitive area of the chip.

With it, three colour separation originals are obtained behind a purple, a green, and a red light filter, the latter being part of one of the three different raw materials in use. Blue and red light passes a purple filter . . .

For colour separations, however, it is best to use 150 line screens to get the best visual output. SpecialThis is a specific colour designated to be printed with a specific matching ink, rather than through process CMYK printing.
