Complimentary Colors is this week's Photo Challenge. I think using Complimentary Colors is one of the best ways to add impact to your photos. See what I mean in my article on Complimentary Colors.
Complimentary Colors: On a standard color wheel, complimentary colors are opposite one another. For example the complimentary color to orange is blue, for green it's red, and for yellow, it is violet.
It is either a good idea to surpress as many different colors as possible (resulting in monochromatic pictures when going to the extremes) or to make use of color contrasts by looking for complimentary colors - red, green & blue.
To produce video coverage with warm characteristics, you can "white balance" the video camera on a blue object or any of the complimentary colors. When you record the scene, an overall yellow cast is produced.
-Subtractive synthesis - combination color system used in modern photography materials. The complimentary colors of yellow, magenta and cyan are formed to provide a reasonably full color image.
If two colors, combined in the proper proportion form white light, then they are complimentary colors.
