Compound Lenses
Contemporary lenses are invariably of the compund type. That is, they are made with multiple lens elements, combining to correct image aberrations.

Compound lens
Lens system consisting of two or more elements.
Compression
A digital file is compressed by removing redundant information. Some image file compression methods discard visual information that may degrade image quality.

Compound lens
Lens system consisting of two or more elements.
Concave lens
Simple lens, or lens shape within a compound lens, whose surfaces curve inward. Such a lens causes light rays to diverge.

Compound lens:
Lens system consisting of two or more elements. Compound lens designs allow the lens designer to reduce lens aberrations, making maximum apertures larger and improve resolution.
Compression: ...

Part of a compound lens consisting of one element (single lens) or more than one element cemented or otherwise joined together. A lens may therefore be described as 4-element, 3-component when two of the elements are cemented together.

Anastigmat
A compound lens which has been corrected for the lens aberration "astigmatism".

(PIA) LENS ELEMENTS-Individual simple lenses that are combined to form a compound lens. (PIA) LIGHT, AMBIENT-Surrounding light; the general room illumination or light level.

A zoom lens is a compound lens with a variable effective focal length.

ELEMENT - A single lens that is a component of a compound lens.
EMULSION - A light-sensitive composition consisting of one or more of the silver halides suspended in gelatin for coating a surface of a film, photographic paper and the like.

Compound lenses have two principal points, the location of which cannot be determined by appearance.

In practical photography, compound lenses made of a number of elements of different types of glass are used.

Element - This is the term used to describe one individual lens which is a component of a compound lens.
Emulsion - A coating which is sensitive to light. It is found on the surface of film and photographic paper.

Bi-concave lens
A simple lens or lens shape within a compound lens, whose surfaces curve toward the optical center. Such a lens causes light rays to diverge.

A point from where the focal length of the lens is measured. Normally located at the center of the lens. However, compound lenses have two principal points, and the location of these principal points cannot be determined by appearance.
