Copying
Copying old photographs or art works, and even collectible items such as coins and stamps can be done several ways. You can buy a copy stand which looks like an enlarger but without the enlarger head.

 


CHAPTER 8 COPYING The term copying, as used in photography, means producing a photograph from a photograph, map, painting, or similar flat document.

When I started my photography business a few decades ago, my commercial client was Bagdasarian Productions. They made the "Chipmunk" animated cartoons, with Alvin, Theodore and Simon.

Copying
For copying, a single lens reflex camera offers a decided advantage because the artwork can be composed and focused in the camera viewfinder. A standard macro lens will cover most situations.

Copying And Pasting: Just select a region of an image with any selection tool. Copy it (Edit > Copy). Paste it (Edit > Paste). Then move the resulting layer into play and mask as needed.

Slide-Copying Tips
It's best to shoot slide duplicates in the RAW format to maximize image quality as well as your ability to make any needed post-shooting adjustments to the images.

Copying images from your memory card couldn't be easier. Once you've popped the card into one of the slots, highlight the Memory Card icon on the home screen and press OK.

But copying someone else's style is not what fine art photography is about. It's about creating your own style, having your own voice.

When copying documents, maps, or other flat subjects, one choice is to scan them on a flat bed scanner. If they are too large, or if you don't have a scanner, you can photograph them using a copy stand or equivalent setup.

Consider photocopying your photos or scanning them into a computer, if you don't have the negatives. Be aware that excessive photocopying or scanning can damage photos, as the process involves both light and heat.

The process of copying your images to an iPad is quite easy.
1. Purchase an iPad Camera Connection Kit.

Flatbed scanners are optimized for copying text pages and photographic prints, but some have slide-copying capabilities, too. They range in price from under $100 to around $2,000 for pro-level models.

The traditional remedy for muddy solarization has been to use photographic materials of extremely high contrast and to increase the contrast still further by successive copying of the solarized image.

For critical work and copying slides I use an EL-Nikkor 50mm/f2.8 enlarger lens in a lens adapter, bolted onto the bellows. The zoom is nice because I don't have to get in really tight and I can adapt the magnification to match the shot.
