Olympus CR-V3 Lithium battery There are just too many types of proprietary lithium ion rechargeable batteries in the market today. Each camera maker tends to adopt a new battery design almost every time a new digital camera is launched.
The first is batteries that are an established off-the-shelf form factor, most commonly AA, CR2, or CR-V3 batteries, with AAA batteries in a handful of cameras. The CR2 and CR-V3 batteries are lithium based, and intended for single use.
Idea: There is a rechargeable CR-V3 system I've seen circulating under various sub-prime brand names. You can get one here for $30 with the charger and spare batteries here for $20.
