Cropped sensor dLSR cameras:
Nikon D5000 - annouced on April 14th, 12megapixel, hi-def video, same sensor as the D90. It lacks an auto-focus motor. Too bad is doesn't autofocus with 3 of my 4 favorite lenses, just like the D60 and D40.

What about cropped sensor? On Nikon, do we use the 1.5x crop factor for the shutter speed or we can still use the focal length of the lens?

DC - For cropped sensor digital cameras including APS-C and Four Thirds. The image circle on these lenses match the smaller size of image sensor on small-frame sensor cameras (DX-format on Nikon, EF-S on Canon).

5 cropped sensor on a D2X or a D200, can actually cover most things on most reefs with only two lenses, a 12-24mm zoom and a 60mm Micro-Nikkor. Discretionary lenses would add something even wider, like the 10.

8 on a cropped sensor camera are popular, cheap, sharp, and great for portraits. Normal lenses (50mm equivalent on a 35mm film camera) are useful in a wide range of situations.

I use a 50mm macro lens on my cropped sensor Canon EOS 30D so it’s equivalent to a focal length of 80mm, but you could use a longer telephoto with a teleconverter or perhaps fitted with extension tubes or a close-up lens.
