Mechanism delaying the opening of the shutter for some seconds after the release has been operated. Also known as self-timer.

Its principal use occurs when the photographer wishes to be included in the picture, but it is also useful in avoiding camera movement or vibration during time exposures.(Also known as "Delayed action") ...

The "Black Dial" IIIf synchronizes at only 1/30 sec, but the later "Red Dial" has a more usable 1/50 sec. Some Red Dial IIIf's also have a self timer and are known as IIIf RD DA (for Delayed Action).
