Dense
An overexposed negative or portion of it; the opposite of Thin. See: Overexposure.

Dense
Describes a negative or an area of a negative in which a large amount of silver has been deposited. A dense negative transmits relatively little light.

The dense foliage blocks out most of the harshness of the sun’s rays and provides a soft, even light on the forest floor so I could quite easily shoot for most of the day.

The 'denser' build and slightly chunkier grip on the EOS 5D Mark II does make it feel that bit more substantial than the EOS 50D, you know there's something special about it from the moment you lift it.

Being much denser than air, water is able to hold matter in suspension which reduces the distances we can see underwater - the visibility.

Maybe I am dense, but it doesn't feel right to state that a 10mm lens is actually a 16mm lens on a camera with a 1.6x crop factor.

china
a dense porous white opaque glazed or unglazed vitrerous ceramic whiteware.
china clay
natural white inorganic mineral pigment used in paper coatings and as an ink extender.

As newer and denser sensor chips are developed the megapixel rating of cameras will increase, until eventually we'll have gigapixel, and maybe even terapixel cameras. This is a lot like computers.

A cutaway also can be used when you want to condense an extended flow of action; for example, if you start a sequence with a closeup shot of the time clock indicating 12 minutes left in the quarter, ...

The Sun is composed of compressible (and hot!) gases and is much denser at its center than near its surface. Depth of field The distance between the nearest and farthest points that appear in acceptably sharp focus in a photograph.

Smaller enlargemennts will usually take a smaller aperture, and denser negatives will usually require a larger aperture. Regardless, the first test will show you.
Cut a piece of paper into strips.

L'Opéra (9th arrondissement, right bank) is the area around the Opéra Garnier is a home to the capital's densest concentration of both department stores and offices.

Uneven development.
1) Film is lighter or underdeveloped along one side . Not enough developer to cover the film in the tank.
2) Negatives have denser areas mirroring the shape of the sprocket holes.

If the brightest area of our midday outdoor photograph is an area of very dense very white clouds, and they read 175R,165G,165B, we have a red color cast plus clouds that are close to being light gray instead of white.

The local salvage lot store has the really good polyfoam (super dense and $27 per sheet at the foam dealers) in 15"X20"X2" pieces for $.99 each.

Water is 600 times denser than air, and it has a color cast as well (cyan in most of the tropical diving world, green in more temperate waters).

This produces dense blacks and rich midtones, but it often sacrifices deep shadow detail. Some printer drivers enable you to reduce ink limit to prevent this. The side effect is that midtones are weakened.

78 One way of solving this problem is to cut off a 10- inch length of the film and to clip this strip, emulsion side up, on a dense, black plastic lath that is laid in the bottom of a tray of developer.

You've seen moisture condense on a cool glass of water on a hot summer day. Your lens and the film inside the camera behave the same way when you bring them inside - moisture from the warm inside air condenses on their cold surfaces.

Dye sub is continuous tone printing, it prints tiny square dots each of which is denser in the center and lighter on the edges. These dots can be varied from almost no dot at all to an almost completely solid dot.

While airport safety is not a laughing matter, we did hear one humorous sidelight to all this: Remember that plastic explosives are a very dense, squishy, organic material. The new X-ray machines can spot such materials.

The lower altitude has a much denser air with more air molecules. The air molecules in the lower atmosphere are key to understanding the difference between midday light and magic hour #1 light.

All sorts of things can be used as frames: archways, door and window openings, a hole in a wall, a gap in dense foliage or between trees, the overhanging branches of a tree, bridges, even the play of shadow on a scene.

A filter that is not uniformly dense, but that gradually changes its density across the filter's field.

It was so bright it could be seen through dense foliage. I realize I used the title "Wyman's Woods" for the last post and reused it this time. It raises the question of how place names evolve.

Heaphy Track Highlights: The track begins in dense beech and podocarp forest in north; continues up to snow tussock plateaus; and descends into palm-studded forests, rugged West Coast beaches.

In dense fog, colors are especially desaturated. Last summer I got up early one morning to see my entire subdivision socked in (#2), and I raced outside to photograph the beautiful scenes until the fog lifted about a half hour later.

Position yourself opposite the edge of a dense forest on a misty or foggy day. Your picture is apt to look virtually black and white.

Occurs when a rising air parcel becomes denser than the surrounding air. It will then return to its original position.

Replicates the texture of dense dark and pure white Conté crayons on an image. The Conté Crayon filter uses the foreground color for dark areas and the background color for light areas.
Contact sheet ...

A condition in which too much light reaches the film, producing a dense negative or a very bright/light print or slide.
PAL
Phase Alternation Line. System for minimising hue errors in colour transmission used in the EU.

"Black" will probably not as dense as normal but there shouldn't be any further side-effects.
Typical scenes for Center-weighted Metering ...

The relative strength of these two lights is quite important as that is what determines how dense the shadows are. It's quite easy to adjust the strength of each light just by moving them nearer or further from the subject.

A histogram usually contains densely arranged columns that represent the lightness or darkness of the photo.

Overcast sky: This was Anna's main light, and its dense cloud cover provided a softbox-like source that was large, bright, and very diffuse.

Thin
A negative that is underexposed or underdeveloped and therefore appears less dense than a normal negative. A thin neg will need a harder paper to print correctly.
(see Contrast, & Papergrade ) ...

The steep cliff forces the lines of equal elevation to cluster very densely. We can see the elevation at the valley floor is 4000 feet and at the top of El Capitan is 7569 feet. Now you know which direction the cliff drops.

Your gear is cold from being outside all day and when you pull out the camera to download images, the relatively high moisture of a warm room will condense on the cold equipment.

Overexposure
When too much light reaches the film a dense negative or a very light print or slide is produced.

Besides, your monitor can't show detail as dense and fine as a print could .This means these pictures would make fine 8x12s if you're not scrutinizing the 8x12 prints from like a foot away, or looking at then on your computer.

Graduated Filter - A filter than contains a clear portion combined with an increasingly dense or colored portion. It allows a photographer to adjust a photo area's color or exposure level.
...

Highlight. A very light area in a scene, print, or transparency; a very dense, dark area in a negative. Also called a high value.

Overexposure A condition in which too much light reaches the film, producing a dense negative or a very light print or slide.

Position yourself at a 45 degree angle to the front of your subject. From this position, the flash will create a dense black shadow which falls back diagonally from your subject.

I choose T-MAX 100 because it has a very fine grain and it is the black and white developing process that I have had the best results with. This is what fully developed dense negatives look like.

Overdevelopment: Excessive development, producing dense, high contrast negatives.
Overexposure: Excessive exposure. On color negatives and prints the result is an increase in overall density. On slides the effect gives lighter results.

If you open the canister before it has time to reach room temperature, moisture from the air will condense on the film surface causing spots on your pictures. To prevent this, be sure to take it out at least an hour before opening the canister.

Isolate a plant of a contrasting color against a background of willows. Or shoot birds feeding in a dense stand; maybe even set up a bird-feeding station nearby so that they use the willows as a perch.

In photography, brightness is dependent upon correct exposure. Overexposures will be very bright but will have lost highlight density details. Underexposures will be very dense and show little brightness.

One way to put a film of "distilled" water on a surface is to breath on it. The water vapor in your breath will condense on a cooler surface as pure water. You can then wipe the condensation off the surface with a lens tissue or cloth.

After that, you only need to remove the objects and rinse with plain water. The results are beautifully detailed objects in shades of blue and white. If you use a transparency you need a heavy piece of glass and a dense negative.
