Close-Up Diopters
One of the simplest and most cost-effective ways to get into the realm of macro photography is though the use of two-element close-up diopters, also known as an achromats.

Diopter: A diopter is simply a close-up lens that screws onto a lens's front thread. For topside use, this is a simple, inexpensive and easy solution.

Diopter A measure of lens power equal to the reciprocal of the focal length. Eyeglass prescriptions are generally indicated in diopters. For cameras, the diopter is used as the measure of the dioptric power for the image in the viewfinder.

Diopter - Much like the lens used in prescription glasses to combat nearsightedness. This feature allows users operating the viewfinder on the camera in a similar way.

Diopter
A unit used to express the power of magnifying glasses. Also used as a name for screwin magnifying lenses, which can be fitted to the front of a camera lens.

Diopter Correction
An adjustment on the viewfinder of a camera, allowing someone to adjust the viewfinder to their vision and removing the need to wear their glasses when looking through it.

DIOPTER - A unit of measure of the refractive power of a lens.
DISTORTION - Misrepresentation of proportions of objects or of their arrangement in a scene.

DIOPTER CORRECTION- This is like a focus adjustment that matches the focus of the camera's optical viewfinder to the user's eyesight. This way, users don't have to wear their glasses when using the camera.

Diopters, or supplementary close up lenses
While not strictly filters, these deserve a mention anyway.

Diopter Adjustment - Adjusts the optical viewfinder's magnification factor to suit the eyesight of the user. Look for a knob or dial next to or beneath the viewfinder's eyepiece. Not all cameras have this feature.

Diopter lens
Optical accessory, which is screwed in front of the objective of the camera and functiones as a magnifying glass. Opposite of the macro converter only the image standard will be changed; the closest focus range will not be shorter.

No Diopter Controls to Knock
Classic cameras, like most manual focus cameras, predate having annoying little knobs to adjust for eyeglass wearers.

[edit] Diopters and split diopters
Some argument could be made as to whether these are technically filters at all, or actual accessory lenses, however they are sold by filter manufacturers as part of their product lines, ...

Diopter Adjustment
Some cameras include this feature that allows you control the magnification of the image you see through the viewfinder. Look for a knob or dial near the viewfinder's eyepiece.

Effective Focal Length
Note how close-up filters increase magnification much more when used with longer focal length lenses. For example, a 50 mm lens requires +10 diopters to achieve a magnification gain of just 0.

Unlike diopters, however, they do not affect image quality at all as no optics are involved.

If a macro lens is outside your budget and you want to do macro work, using an extension tube or a high quality 2-element close-up diopter (which screws onto the front of your lens like a filter) is certainly an option.

The A55 and A33 feature a large, high resolution EVF, with diopter correction and an automatic EVF/LCD switch sensor (visible as the dark rectangle beneath the eyepiece in this image).

It not only magnifies the viewfinder image to 2:1 size (double) but also has a built-in acuity diopter which allows the individual to adjust the Rx according to their own specific visual status.

Their strength is measured in diopters (for example - 1, 2 or 3 diopters as the lenses increase in strength). Depending on their strength, they will enable your Nikonos to focus from round about 15 inches to roughly 6 inches in front of the lens.

There's the aforementioned EVF, with a diopter dial for the hard-of-seeing, a flash-pop-up button, a preview button, a control that toggles between AF and manual focus (if you have the camera default set for AF, ...

The focal length of normal lenses can be changed by the use of "close-up" or "diopter" auxiliary lenses. The quality of the resulting images depends on how well the main lens and the auxiliary get along with each other.

Means by which a photographer can get up close and personal with their subjects are through the use of extension tubes, tele-converters, close up diopters, or true macro lenses.

There are other options to bring the focusing range of some lenses closer-bellows, extension tubes, diopters-but for the best optical performance and the easiest compatibility with the latest autofocus and auto-exposure technology, ...

Digital Camera Buyers Guide Tip: If you wear eyeglasses look for a digital camera with a focusable diopter in the optical viewfinder so you can adjust the focus.

you like to tell us what goes on inside our cameras scientifically to go from infinity sharp pictures right to macro and super-macro with one button - without loss of resolution. One could never do it in the old 35mm. cameras without diopter lenses.

Some advanced models included depth-of-field preview, mirror lock-up, spot metering, and a few extras such as diopter correction, self timer, PC terminal, and AE-lock. These were all the features photographers needed to take great pictures.
