Direct Memory Access (DMA) - This term refers to the movement of data directly from memory to some other device, such as the disk drive, without first being loaded in the microprocessor.

Direct Memory Access
The ability to use memory without a software interface.

UDMA (Ultra Direct Memory Access) Technology
This technology increases the data transfer rate of your camera's memory card even more. UDMA also increases the transfer speed of data from your camera to your computer.

UDMA Ultra Direct Memory Access. UDMA is a protocol developed by Quantum Corporation in conjunction with Intel that supports burst mode data transfer rates. UDMA rated memory cards are rated faster than non-UDMA memory cards. Find out more.

In February 2007 Lexar introduced Professional UDMA (Ultra Direct Memory Access) memory cards.

If you do, people tell me UDMA stands for Ultra Direct Memory Access/33 megabits per second, twice the speed of some previous standard. Likewise, "300x" is only meaningful for comparing to other cards that rate themselves with the same method.
