Double exposure photographs have been around since the beginning of film cameras. Back then, there was no Photoshop. You couldn't just go in and change your images any way you want. So photographers did what they could with the tools they had.

Double exposures are not the limit, as multiple exposures are possible, but the photographer should try not to overexpose the film.

Double Exposure
Double Exposure refers to the technique of imposing two images into a singe space, either by taking two pictures on a single frame of film or printing two different images onto the same piece of photo paper.

Double Exposure Two exposures on the same frame. With film cameras, the film is not wound forward after the first exposure. In digital photography, a double exposure is most commonly made by combining two images using an image editing program.

DOUBLE EXPOSURES: No problem. Almost no digital camera can do this.

Back when I was shooting film, the night before the goshawk shoot, I set my camera to make a double exposure and photographed the moon in the top right corner of the frame.

With flash, make a double exposure; one of the original and the second of an out of focus gray card several stops less than the first exposure. You can also overexpose the duplicate by one stop and have your film pull processed by one stop.

It has the cocking lever seperate from the film advance lever, this helps save a photo if the self timer does not go off, plus, you can do funcky double exposure shots with home made filters.

Another interesting option is to shoot double exposures. Since it is night, there shouldn't be much ambient light, making this easier than it might seem.

The following photograph looks like a double exposure, but happened because the camera bumped in the middle of the exposure. The movement of the bump wasn't recorded because it happened very quickly in relation to the time of the exposure.

Showing Motion: Flash-Blur
This is done by combining the flash with a long exposure. The result actually looks like a double exposure because the flash gives you a sharp rendition of the subject while the slow shutter speed results in a blur.

Probably the most profound aspect of lomography is the unexpected and widely varying saturation, random lens flashes, light leaks, and double exposures.

This double exposure was made made entirely on camera. When a tripod is not available, cameras can be supported on any flat stable surface, fence posts, tables, walls etc. A bean bag under the camera can help with lining up your shot in those cases.

You can see the difference between the two types of blur if you look closely, rather than a general fuzziness, movement blur looks more like a double exposure or a series of exposures.

No matter though, they can easily be corrected in image-editing software, unless you want to make a feature of them, that is. Remember to play with angles, twisting the camera for interesting compositions, defocus slightly, mess with double exposures ...

I recently purchased a digital camera and phot software. I would like to create a picture that has a photo on photo but can't seem to do it, like a double exposure print.
Is there a trick to this or any suggestions?
