Irregular marks on a film emulsion caused by uneven drying when processed. This can be prevented by using wetting agent in the final wash.

DRYING. CLEANING AND REGREASING
Once thoroughly rinsed, your equipment should be equally thoroughly dried, using low beat such as above a radiator.

drying rack
a series of metal or wooden shelves of open construction designed to separate and hold printed substrates in sheet form for drying at room temperature or similar device for drying screens.

Drying marks
Are marks on the film emulsion caused by uneven drying and resulting in areas of uneven density, which may show up in the final print.

Drying and mounting fiber-based black-and-white photographic prints has always been difficult. It's almost impossible to get a large fiber print to dry completely flat. Large dry-mount presses cost several thousand dollars.

Drying. Before drying, the film may be run through a solution of room temperature water and either a drying agent such as Kodak's Photoflo or a drop of dish soap mixed into the water very well.

Step 18: Drying and Hardening
Remove the negatives from their reels and hang them in a clean dust free area.

When you think about this for a moment, you can see that since the heavily exposed and lightly exposed areas are distributed randomly throughout the average negative, drying occurs rapidly in the dense areas, more slowly in the intermediate areas, ...

They have short drying times because they are so absorbent that water in the ink evaporates more quickly. However, their longevity is less than that of other papers.

As Color Density rises, increase Drying Time. Guard against excessive dot gain. Watch for loss of shadow detail. Watch for spattering in highlights and midtones.

Immediately before the drying of the print, carefully wipe the surface of the print with a squeegee or a damp- dry sponge.

Although a print comes out of the printer dry to the touch, further drying occurs afterward (for how long depends on the paper). This means that certain tones aren't fully "developed" for anywhere from minutes to hours.

After drying, I introduce additional highlights by hand with acrylic paints or by etching the paper.

Look for tide marks (lines left by drying liquid) and never buy anything that has been subject to liquid damage, since the risks are high. Rust or green copper corrosion are bad signs.

Antioffset Powder: Powder which creates a gap between sheets of paper to aid in the ink drying process.
Antique Finish: In paper, a toothy, open texture, usually giving a hand-crafted look.

Wetting agents: Chemical used in the final rinse water to promote even drying of film.
Wide-angle lens: Lens with a focal length shorter than the diagonal of the film format.

They do the cleanest job I've ever gotten on my chromes. There are never any drying or squeegee marks on my film, and never any pinholes.

After drying, Niepce then chipped off the remaining hard asphalt. It revealed a permanent image of the original view out his window.

I often set a flooded camera in a cardboard box on its side and shoot medium-heat air from a hair dryer to expedite the drying process. The box creates a heated cabinet to dry the camera more uniformly.

Subsequent gentle washing of the leaf helped to rid it of any dust or dirt which, whilst not necessarily visible to the naked eye, would almost certainly show up once examined under a macro lens and extension tubes. Drying the leaf also had to be ...

The best way to dry fiber paper is to squeegee it to remove excess surface water, then lay it flat, emulsion-up, on a drying screen. It will curl. Figure on drymounting for exhibition.

These canisters are now built with an attached electrical plug. Each morning I merely plug the canister into a wall socket and a built-in heating element cooks off the absorbed moisture, drying the silica for the next night’s use.
