Photography Effective MegapixelEffective resolution

Here, the camera calculates, or interpolates, 6 million pixels of information based on the measurement of 3 million effective pixels on sensor.

Effective Pixels
Describes the number of pixels stored in the image files made by a digital camera regardless of the number of pixels in the image sensor.

Effective Pixels
The effective pixels of a sensor are a measurement of the number of pixels of a sensor that actually record the photographic image. As an example a camera might contain a sensor that contains 10.

Effective Pixels
Pixels on the sensor actually used to capture an image. Often, not all the pixels on a sensor can be used because: 1) some pixels on the surrounding edges of a sensor are masked off to determine a black point; or 2) some cameras, ...

If the digital sensor has approximately the same resolution (effective pixels per unit area) as the 35mm film surface (24 x 36 mm), ...

Effective pixels - A digicam may claim to have 3.34 megapixels on its CCD, but not all of them are used for taking the photo. Some are painted black for color balance, while others fall outside the range of the lens.

Effective Pixels The actual numbers of pixels the camera's sensor uses to make the image. The number of effective pixels is often slightly smaller than the total number of pixels, as some pixels are not used in the actual making of the image.

Sometimes two numbers are given, total pixels and effective pixels. Total pixels count every pixel on the sensor surface. Usually the very edge pixels aren't used in the final image.

could be added, a camera like the Fuji s7000 ( which I had for a month ) boasts a high pixel count but the software adds pixels and compresses too high to give a smaller file size + grainy image, every camera has recorded pixels and effective pixels, ...
