elliptical dot
an elongated oval shaped halftone dot that forms an image that tends to produce better tonal gradations across 50% tint area; also called a chain dot.
Elliptical Dot: Also called a chain dot. Used in a halftone to achieve some of the smoothness of a round dot without sacrificing the sharpness of the square dot. This dot shape improves the gradation of middletones and especially skin tones.
Elliptical dot
A type of halftone screen dot with an elliptical rather than circular shape, which sometimes produces better tonal gradations.
