Enlarger head
The part of an enlarger that contains the light source, the negative carrier and the lens. An enlarger head also houses a filter drawer or a built-in filtration system.

Some enlarger heads can be removed and used as a box to hold the slide. Units with built-in filtration are the best, as they allow you to dial-in amount of necessary filtration.

Turn the enlarger lamp on, open the lens to its maximum aperture, and move the easel around until the desired portion of the image is in the picture area Raise or lower the enlarger head on the upright standard or column and focus the image.

The main part of the enlarger, or the enlarger head, starts from the top with the lamp housing. This is where the light source is.

Condenser
A lens in the enlarger head or spotlight that concentrates the light to a point of focus. An optical system which concentrates light rays from a wide source into a narrow beam. Condensers are used in spotlights and enlargers.

The parts of the enlarger includes baseboard, enlarger head, elevation knob, filter holder, negative carrier, glass plate, focus knob, girder scale, timer, bellows, and housing lift.[3]

Dichroic Filters: Filters encased in glass for colour printing that are built into an enlarger head. The colour balance of dichroic filters is set by adjusting dials, instead of moving individual filters.

It is, however, a good idea to paint the wall and ceiling directly above, behind and beside, if next to a wall, matt black. You may be surprised at the amount of light that can leak out of an enlarger head.
