Before you can etch any photo, you must dust it with a small amount of talcum powder. Sprinkle a small amount of the powder over the entire surface of the photo, and rub in carefully with your hand to evenly distribute.

etch resist
a material or compound applied to portions of a product in process (usually in a pattern), prior to etching, to protect the covered portions from the action of the etchant.

After finishing a line, it moves down perhaps 1/1200 of an inch and starts to etch another line. The computer controlling the laser can also vary the intensity of each pulse to control how deeply the material is etched.

Think of your camera like it's an Etch A Sketch. As cars pass by the front of it, both the rear and front lights draw lines across your image sensor.

One thing that has always puzzled me is why camera manufacturers don't etch thirds gridlines on their focusing screens.

How appropriate it is that in order to make a picture, a photographer needs light with which to etch an image onto film or a digital sensor. But what do photographers do when the sun level drops and they’re outdoors?

You want a long exposure time, and as we've mentioned elsewhere, the bursts of the exploding fireworks are bright enough to etch themselves onto low ISO sensor settings such as 200 or 400, even with a medium-size aperture setting.

The other problem with some types of oil that get onto lenses (and filters) is that the longer they're left on the glass surface, the harder they are to remove. The oils can actually etch their way into the coated surfaces of the glass on the ...
