EXIF Data is extended metadata included in a digital image file, detailing the camera manufacturer and model, taking date/time, exposure - shutter speed and aperture, the use of flash, picture size/units/resolution/colour representation etc.

Almost all current digital cameras include EXIF data in the image file. Embedded in this case means that the data is included in the header of the actual JPEG or TIFF file.
EXIF stands for ‘Exchangeable Image File' data and it is the information that your camera stores with you image file that tells you about it. It is stored when you take images in JPEG format (or TIFF).

I find that the EXIF information is great for learning the difference between settings. Almost all digital cameras record several settings in a header within the photo file.
