After shooting several fireworks displays I got home very late.

EXPOSURE SETTING - The aperture and shutter speed combination used to expose the film in a camera.

"Exposure settings" is a generalised term for the camera settings at the time of exposure and would normally mean the combination of shutter speed, aperture and ISO settings.

Exposure Settings
Once your child has a good grasp on the above techniques it might be time to teach them some basics of exposure (this might be one for slightly older kids).

The exposure settings you choose dictate both the duration and the amount of light entering the camera. Shutter speed controls duration, while aperture allows you to adjust the volume.

The exposure setting is calculated based on data from matrix/segment elements (3 to 16 or more, typically 6) taking into account such factors as the focusing point in use, subject size, position, distance, overall lighting level, ...

The exposure settings during capture have a direct impact on an unavoidable and thus important factorimage noise.

Each exposure setting is 1 "stop" from the next and lets in half or twice the light of the next setting. (Many digital cameras actually let you adjust settings in one-third stops for finer control).

Stops and exposure settings: the basics
When you take a picture you allow an amount of light through the lens, focusing it onto the image sensor. The amount of light you let in is measured in stops.

Automatic exposure setting
A system that automatically sets correct exposure by linking a camera’s exposure meter with the shutter or aperture or both.

WB settings and exposure settings are intertwined with one another so it’s not unusual to have to tweak your exposure settings after setting WB or vice versa.

AE Lock - To lock exposure settings (shutter speed and aperture) independently of the auto focus hold the shutter release half-down and press SET. An asterisk (*) will appear in the center of the LCD, now reposition the scene and take the shot.

By just using the exposure setting and different flow and feather sizes on the brush we can add some nice highlight areas to the photo.

EXPOSURE- The exposure setting in a camera is what regulates how much light is used to create the image. It doesn't matter whether it is a film camera or a digital camera.

Here is your new 'exposure setting':
big hose & short time of 3 min
large aperture (F2.8) & fast shutter speed of 1/250 sec.

Tip 5: Use Multiple Exposure Settings
A good thing to try is to use multiple exposure settings. I use a technique called bracketing (which simply means shooting the same picture at different exposures) to get the best shot.

Aperture Priority Setting: An exposure setting taken with a camera where the photographer chooses the aperture setting and the camera sets the shutter speed for proper exposure.

light meter - A device that measures light to determine the proper exposure settings for a scene.

Each curve is labeled with the exposure setting used on the printer to create the curve (figs. 4-30, 4-31, and 4-32).

Also called f-stops, they work in conjunction with shutter speeds to indicate exposure settings.

You can quickly and easily adjust exposure settings. By referring to the exposure index in the viewfinder and working in stops, you can fine tune your exposure. Use manual focus for stationary objects.

You can do this very easily if your camera has a bracketing, or multiple exposure setting.

Therefore the camera will be able to get a precise handle on how much light is actually falling onto the card and advise the exact exposure setting you're after.

The arrow points to the exposure setting). Don't touch any of the settings except the Exposure slider (you can also fine tune white balance, sharpness, ... but thats covered elsewhere).
Play around with the exposure slider.

This is a perfect opportunity to work out your exposure settings, and game time shooting location. You want to find a place that is central to the action, but where your view will not be blocked.

Bulb - This is a long time exposure setting - shutter stays open for as long as you keep the shutter release button held down. Time exposure mode.

Most cameras have an "auto" exposure setting and, in fact, this is the default on all standard point-and-shoot cameras.

Metering feature that used to hold the exposure setting when used in the automatic mode.

Greater scene contrast can be accommodated by making one or more exposures of the same scene using different exposure settings and then combining those images.

What you really want to do is to lock in the flash exposure settings when you've got your friend as the main subject in the viewfinder. Then you can turn the camera to move your friend to the side while retaining the correct flash exposure settings.

So, just like that I had a correct flash exposure setting, f/5.6, based on the four foot flash to subject distance and at the same time, I had a correct exposure setting, f/5.6 @ 1/250 second for the brighter ambient light in the background.

Is DxO Optics Pro perfect? Nope. While it produces some of the best results I've seen from any raw converter it is not without room for improvement, most notably in its user interface.

If your exposure settings move during the process, you'll end up with frames that simply can't be integrated together. Give yourself plenty of overlap to overcome any lens distortion and to make the actual stitching easier.

Whilst 'auto bracketing' remains set (until I cancel it) the camera will cycle through the same three exposure settings so, if my 'drive' is set to single shot, I must remember to take three shots of each scene.

How to manually change your camera's exposure settings?
Many beginners often find their photographs are either underexposed (too dark) or overexposed (too light or white).

Next, "lock" the exposure setting values (you may need to place your SLR in manual mode for this). Step back from the subject, and take the photograph using the exposure settings obtained from the reading.

" The Sunny-16 rule states that when the light is good and falls on the subject (usually between 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on a bright, sunny day with the sun at your back), the correct exposure setting is f/16 and a shutter speed that is the reciprocal of ...

Term used for a long exposure setting normally more than 30 seconds. The start of the exposure is made by pressing the shutter, only ending when the shutter button is released.

Look for multiple exposure settings for indoor, outdoor and low-light conditions. If you've got some experience taking photographs, look for a digital camera that lets you manually set focus and exposure.

If you are using a digital SLR or a camera that has a manual exposure setting or one that lets you manipulate exposure with an exposure-compensation feature, you might want to play with some exposure variations.

You could use flash combined with a manual exposure setting on your camera with exposure times of around 1/15sec or perhaps as low as 1/4sec.

Method of exposure setting in a camera, in which the electric current produced or inhibited by the action of light on a photoelectric cell operates a mechanism that adjusts the aperture and/or the shutter speed without human intervention.

AE Lock - The ability to hold the current exposure settings and allow you to point the camera elsewhere before capturing the image.

The first is that I dialed in the exposure settings on the camera and the power settings on the strobe so that Rebecca would be properly exposed.

Override of the camera's auto-exposure setting that increases the exposure by between one and two stops. Use this mode to prevent a silhouette when taking photos while the light is behind the subject.

Deliberately changing the exposure settings recommended by a light meter in order to obtain a different exposure to better fit personal preferences, create special effects or meet special requirements.

Exposure compensation - deliberately changing the exposure settings recommended by the camera in order to obtain proper exposure. This is usually done in steps of 1/3 to 1/2 of an f stop.

The sensitivity (ISO) setting will also have a major impact on the effects of different exposure settings.
Exposure value (EV) - this is the value calculated by combining the settings for aperture, shutterspeed and sensitivity.

The delay is caused by the time it takes the camera to adjust white balance, focus on the subject and calculate the exposure settings.

Bracketing. Taking several photographs of the same scene at different exposure settings, some greater than and some less than the setting indicated by the meter, to ensure a well-exposed photograph.
