An extension tube is merely a hollow ring that can be mounted between a lens and camera to provide greater extension.

Extension Tubes
An Extension Tube is a tool used in macro photography that attaches to the face of the camera at one end and to the lens at the other end.

Do extension tubes effect image quality?
Extension tubes do not effect image quality due to the fact that it is not optically changing your camera lens.

EXTENSION TUBES
Another way to make the Nikonos focus closer than the standard 0.8 metre is to move the 35 mm lens away from the film by fitting an extension tube between the lens and the camera body.

Extension tube: The extension tube has no glass inside, but does move the lens farther from the sensor plane, thereby shifting the focus range.

Extension tubes are a very cheap, though less flexible, way of doing this. You don't even need proper extension tubes to do this; you can, for example, rip the optics out of a bunch of cheap teleconverters and stack these as needed.

Extension Tube
Extension tubes increase magnification by fitting between the lens and camera body (SLR/DSLR) and are used for macro and closeup photography.

Extension Ring Also known as Extension Tubes. An Extension Ring is a device placed between the lens and camera body to extend the lens-to-film (or imaging sensor) distance for closer focusing. Find out more.

EXTENSION TUBES - Tubes made from metal and, more frequently, plastic inserted between the lens and the camera, thereby making the lens to film distance greater. The result is increased magnification for close-up photography.

Extension tubes. Metal rings attached between the camera lens and the body to allow closer-than-normal focusing in order to increase the image size.

Extension Tubes: Hollow metal tubes that mount between the camera and the lens to permit closer that normal focusing. The longer the extension the closer the lens will focus, a lower priced substitute for a bellows unit.

Extension bellows.
Device used to provide the additional separation between lens and film required for close-up photography. Consists of extendible bellows and mounting plates at front and rear to fit the lens and camera body respectively.

Extension tubes
Metal tubes added to 35mm or medium format cameras, to extend the lens film distance, enabling a magnification greater than x 1(life size).

Extension tubes and bellows: Basically these are spacers that fit in between your camera and lens allowing you to focus closer.

Extension tubes
Metal tubes used to obtain the additional separation between lens and film for close-up photography. They are fitted with screw thread or bayonet mounts to suit various lens mounts.

Extension tubes. Rings or short tubes mounted between camera body and lens to space the lens further away from the film and so allow the sharp focusing of very close subjects.

Extension cords.
There are two extension cord systems which allow you to move the flash away from the camera for more complex flash setups.

Extension tubes: These look like and attach to the camera the same way as teleconverters do, except they have no glass built into them. Extension tubes are used mainly for close-up photography and can be used with any lens.

-Extension tubes - metal or plastic tubes used on small format cameras, to extend lens-to-film distance, enabling magnification greater than 1x.

I don't recommend using these, I think it is better to use a diopter or teleconverter. The extension tubes will make your port needs much longer, and you have to deal with loss of light.

Extension Tube
This is a lens enclosure without any glass elements. You attach an extension tube to your camera and then the lens to the end of the tube. This device allows you to be nearer the subject and remain in focus.

Extension Tubes
If the lens you are using will not focus close enough there are a couple of ways to make it do so. If the lens is detachable from the camera, you can use 'extension tubes'.

Extension Tubes
These are metal tubes of varying lengths that are attached between the camera body and the camera lens. There is a basic principle they exploit to achieve higher magnifications using normal camera lenses.

Extension tubes fit between a removable lens and the camera body and allow the lens to focus much closer than normal, giving increased magnification. The larger the amount of extension, the greater the increase in magnification.

Extension tubes allow you to get even closer by increasing the distance between the camera and the film surface or sensor, although focusing does become more of a challenge.

Extension tubes can be used with any lens, but the screw in closeup lenses will only fit lenses of a certain filter size.

Extension tubes will allow you to focus closer to your subject and therefore increase image magnification. The main drawback to this method is loss of working distance from your subject.
