Another fast lens which is overlooked by many people is the 200mm f-2.8 lens. This focal length is covered in many slower and faster zooms. However, the fixed 200mm f-2.8 has more to offer than you think. It is affordable and extremely sharp.

This will reduce your image quality, but will make more of the image in focus and allow you to take frontal photos of fast moving objects without rotating as the object passes. These shutter speeds test the limits of most inexpensive cameras.

Very fast
*1 The D70 buffers the final image rather than the 'RAW data' and at lower image sizes / qualities can shoot hundreds in a single burst.

Fast startup and cycle times
Preface
Toshiba is one of the truly huge players in the world of computers and electronics.

Fast shutter speeds 'freeze' action, as did a 1/500th second shutter speed when I photographed this horse and rider at the Double JJ Ranch in Rothbury, Mich. The faster the shutter speed, the better chance you have of freezing the action.

Fast film:
Term normally applied to film with an ISO rating of 400 or greater. Sometimes referred to as general purpose or 'universal' film.

Fast lens
A lens with a wide maximum aperture (f2.8 is a fast lens in a 35mm telephoto design). Often used in low light situations or when a fast shutter speeds are always required.
(see Aperture, Shutter speed & Tele) ...

Fast Babies
Once babies learn to walk, they are fast. Moreover, they are generally very scared of people. Their instincts tell them to run from anything that is not their mother.

FAST FILM - High speed film, i.e. film that is more sensitive to light, meaning less light is needed to obtain a properly-exposed image.

Fast moving fish represent a challenge. You need to preset focus and aperture before you press the shutter at just the right moment.

Fast film.
Coarser-grained photographic film which reacts quickly to light. The higher a film's ISO number the faster it is. ISO 800 and 1600 are considered to be fast films.
cf. slow film, grain, ISO.

fast color
a color which is resistant to the action of external agents such as light, acids, and alkalis.
fastness
the stability of colored pigments or dyestuffs under adverse conditions of light, acids, alkalis, etc.

Fast. Describes 1. a film that is very sensitive to light; 2. a lens that opens to a very wide aperture; 3. a short shutter speed.

Fast moving clouds don't work well with long exposures, as they blur the photos. Slowly moving clouds can make for interesting backdrops that don't distort the integrity of the image.

Fast Lens - See "Lens Speed."
Fill-In Light (or flash) - Additional light from a lamp, flash, or reflector; used to soften or fill in the dark picture areas caused by the brighter main light.

Fast and easy to set up.
Picture research takes place in a database.
Relatively slow retrieval of multiple diverse images.

Fast prime is essential.
Most people can't afford a decent zoom lens. They're either cheap and compromise on image quality or they don't and they're expensive as hell.

Fast and easy to use. Provides reasonable color accuracy under many conditions.

Fast Action, Undercranking see Time Lapse and Frame Rate
Fast, High-Speed
A confusingly general term that includes film, lenses that require little light for Exposure, and Shutter Speeds capable of stopping fast action.

Fast film - film which has an emulsion that is very sensitive to light. These films have high ISO ratings.
Fast lens - lens with a wide maximum aperture (low f number).
Ferric chloride - bleaching solution used on negative materials.

"Fast" and "Slow" film
"Fast" film - typically with speeds of above 400 ISO/ASA - permit photography in low light, or the use of high shutter speeds and small apertures, allowing freezing of motion (and reduced camera shake), or large depths of field.

A fast shutter speed may be anything from 1/60 sec. all the way to 1/1,000 sec. depending on the kind of action you want to freeze.

A fast fixing bath that includes ammonium thiosulphate or thiocyanate.

be fast enough to prevent camera shake.
If you want to capture fast movment you will have to select a reasonably fast shutter speed. To counter this you will have to select an aperture which will;
give you the correct exposure.

Very fast film (such as ISO 1000) may be used without a flash even in low light conditions, although the prints may look grainy. In low light conditions with a slower film speed, it is necessary to use a flash for correct exposure.

"F"- fast; "M"- medium; "MF" - mediurn fast; "S" - slow

Most often in these low-light situations, you are going to want to turn to other techniques such as using a fast film or fast ISO equivalent.

With a fast computer or when I’m working in Prophoto RGB or I really blew the exposure and have to do some salvage work I operate in 16 bit mode. Otherwise I operate in 8 bit mode to save processing time.

A single, fast, one-second vertical scan determines each pixel's height. Respective case in which pixel A or pixel B is brightest (in focus) can be obtained when summarizing data.

How to use fast and slow shutter speed for creative photography

Fast memory chip in a digital camera. Buffer Ram is used to store images whilst they are recorded onto the much slower removable media card.

In theory, a fast lens has a larger opening and transmits more light than a slow lens. Lens speed is determined by the maximum aperture of the lens (the largest lens opening or the smallest f-number) in relation to it's focal length.

Rapid fixer

A fast shutter speed enables the subject to be stopped in action. The faster the action, the higher the shutter speed needs to be in order to stop the action. As a general rule use a shutter speed faster than the speed of the moving object.

Ball heads are fast to set up and they provide great flexibility in positioning the camera. A ball head can also work nicely for macro photos and product photography.

FFT - Fast Fourier Transform.  FFT filters are image processing algorithms applied to CCD images, usually to sharpen or smooth and image. FFT filters have the same function as kernel filters, but are applied differently so the processing is faster.

This shift in focus may be reduced by stopping down the lens; however, this is not always possible because you may need fast shutter speeds.

Since this process happens fast enough, your brain thinks it is seeing a true stereoscopic image. If this shuttering speed is not fast enough, you can still see a stereoscopic image, but you may also see some flickering.
Animated GIFs.

One of the middle lens groups in front of the diaphragm moves during focusing resulting in fast AF and light manual focusing. No change in physical length of the lens body which also remains quite small.

A law of costuming is: "Fast, Cheap, Accurate. Pick two." This law applies to a lot of creative projects, and can also be applied to your film editing. Take more time and you'll get a better result, even with cheaper equipment! ...

High sensitivity films are called "fast" and low sensitivity films are called "slow." A film rated at ISO 200 needs half as much light to form the same image density as one rated at ISO 100.

While the eyes are the most important instruments for recording the world around us, it is the brain that - lightning-fast - interprets all the information the eyes send to it, to give us a 'clear' idea of the world as we see it.

Bottom line is that digital photography is a fast moving field with new products (both real and imagined) being announced all the time. How is anyone supposed to make sense of all this? Got me.

There is no hard and fast rule when to use color vs. black and white. The trick is to be able to visualize a scene in black and white before making the final selection (by final selection I don't mean one cannot take the same image in both types of ...

A common rule of thumb for estimating how fast the exposure needs to be for a given focal length is the one over focal length rule.

To combat this, use a fast shutter speed. If handholding your camera, aim to use a shutter speed that is 1 stop over the focal length, or faster. With a 50mm lens, a shutter speed of at least 1/50sec should be used.

Optical image stabilization employs a floating optical element and a fast spinning gyroscope mechanism to steady the projection back into the camera. Canon lenses with image stabilization have "IS" in their name, like the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.

Edwin's comments - this is being lazy, really lazy given how fast and simple it is to twist on the lens hood.

This means that fast and precise focusing is critical, bad bokeh has a really unpleasant effect on most pictures, and you'll be shooting your lens wide-open most of the time, to minimize camera shake.

Most consumer grade digital cameras now feature USB connectivity, this provides a relatively fast transfer rate (up to 500 Kbyte/s) to a wide range of computer systems on the PC and Mac platforms.

When I shot the World Cup race (see home page), I set the camera on Image mode (fast shutter speed) and used the flash. The speeds were between 1/500 and 1/750 (even if the flash was forced). This is very good.

The lens: Most photographers demand a sharp, fast lens. These lenses have low f/numbers and produce better photos in low-light conditions. A faster f/2.8 or f/3.5 lens will capture better non-flash pictures than an f/4.5 or f/5.6 lens.

Speed the shutter in bright settings to freeze the action of fast moving objects (1/1000 = Shutter Open 1/1000 of a Second). An example of fast shutter action is the ability to see individual spokes on a bicycle that was racing past.

This is exactly why people pay lots of money for "fast" lenses, basketballmom... (Fast here means that the lens can open its aperture wide - the lower the f-number (e.g. 1.8) the wider the aperture is open.

Of course, if shooting fast and always being on the move is not a priority, then the Photoflex Small LiteDome Kit is another product worthy of consideration for any one who shoots portraits on location.

Fast lenses transmit more light and have larger openings than slow lenses. Determined by the maximum aperture in relation to focal length. Lens speed is relative: a 400 mm lens with a maximum aperture of F/3.

It is fast and efficient on my dual 2.5 G5 Mac. The interface and layout has obviously had a lot of input from photographers.
