Fast and Slow Shutter Speeds in Photography
If you're looking to shoot crisp, clear photos, you'll usually want to use the fastest shutter speed possible. The primary limitation of shutter speed is available light.

Fast shutter speed, takes the image almost instantly as in frozen in time.
Use slow shutter speeds of at least 10 seconds or more for night shots of cities, buildings and streets etc.

Another fast lens which is overlooked by many people is the 200mm f-2.8 lens. This focal length is covered in many slower and faster zooms. However, the fixed 200mm f-2.8 has more to offer than you think. It is affordable and extremely sharp.

If your DSLR has a fast burst mode, it can help to capture high speed passes made famous by the Navy’s Blue Angels.

Delkin's PRO memory card line combines blazing fast speeds and increased capacity with unmatched reliability.

What causes it: Most modern SLR cameras synchronize with a strobe at a shutter speed of 1/250th of a second--fast enough to freeze most action under water. But the fastest sync speed on a Nikonos V, for example, is only 1/90th of a second.

Fast lens
A lens with a wide maximum aperture (f2.8 is a fast lens in a 35mm telephoto design). Often used in low light situations or when a fast shutter speeds are always required.

Fast AF Live View
Live View is well on its way to becoming a must-have feature on DSLRs. However, it is a young technology and different manufacturers have different ideas of what it is supposed to be used for.

Fast Babies
Once babies learn to walk, they are fast. Moreover, they are generally very scared of people. Their instincts tell them to run from anything that is not their mother.

Fast flash
If you decide to work with strobe lighting, make sure it has fast flash duration. Broncolor Grafit packs are ideal for this as they have the option to control the speed of the flash duration.

Fast And Slow Image Effects
Given that you can steady the camera with a tripod, a slow shutter speed can also depict motion in ways the unaided eye cannot see.

Fast Lens A lens with a large maximum aperture, usually in the range of f/2.8 or larger. Because such a lens will allow more light to reach the film or image sensor, it will allow the use of faster shutter speeds.

Fast Shutter Mode - This mode allows for fast shutter speed by forcing a large aperture.

FAST FILM - High speed film, i.e. film that is more sensitive to light, meaning less light is needed to obtain a properly-exposed image.

fast color
a color which is resistant to the action of external agents such as light, acids, and alkalis.
fastness
the stability of colored pigments or dyestuffs under adverse conditions of light, acids, alkalis, etc.

Fast. Describes 1. a film that is very sensitive to light; 2. a lens that opens to a very wide aperture; 3. a short shutter speed.

Fast vs. Slow
The maximum aperture of most lenses falls somewhere in the range between f/1.2 and f/5.6, though there are a few 3rd party zooms which have a maximum aperture of f/6.3 at the long end of their range.

Fast Action, Undercranking see Time Lapse and Frame Rate
Fast, High-Speed
A confusingly general term that includes film, lenses that require little light for Exposure, and Shutter Speeds capable of stopping fast action.

Fast lens. Get the fastest (largest aperture) lens you can afford. A 70-200 2.8 lens is great for basketball, for example. A 75-300 4-5.

Fast film
Is film which has an emulsion that is very sensitive to light. These film have high ISO ratings.
Fast lens
Is a lens with a wide maximum aperture ( low f number ).

"Fast" and "Slow" film Edit
"Fast" film is more sensitive than average - typically with speeds of above 400 ISO/ASA - permitting photography in low light, or the use of high shutter speeds and small apertures, ...

Freeze fast action. He captured the rapidly moving cyclist sharply by using three special, short flash-duration Elinchrom Ranger Free Lite A (for 'Action') strobe heads.

The diagram shown here is an over-simplification in that it omits the sensors used to activate the drive for the autofocus system. Those sensors reside at the bottom of the mirror box.

A Lens, Fast and Wide.
To determine the right shutter speed for a balance of light, you need a wide and fast lens, a 14-24mm f2.8 lens, for example.

3. Use fast film or a fast ISO setting on a digital camera when taking baseball pictures. ...

Fast shutter speeds are attainable under given conditions. First of all, you need a lot of light. Next, higher ISO’s are used. Finally, fast lenses are a great asset. If you have all three working for you, you’re ahead of the game.

Fast shutter speeds 'freeze' action, as did a 1/500th second shutter speed when I photographed this horse and rider at the Double JJ Ranch in Rothbury, Mich. The faster the shutter speed, the better chance you have of freezing the action.

Fast ISO speeds and fast lenses make it easy to work in all but the most dim lighting conditions, but there are times when turning to electronic flash is a better and more predictable alternative.

Fast Shutter Speed: Fast shutter speeds are often used to freeze action. Despite the fact that the human eye does not. For instance, I have seen many images of birds frozen in flight. I have yet to see an actual bird frozen in mid air.

Fast moving clouds don't work well with long exposures, as they blur the photos. Slowly moving clouds can make for interesting backdrops that don't distort the integrity of the image.

Fast Lens - See "Lens Speed."

Fill-In Light (or flash) - Additional light from a lamp, flash, or reflector; used to soften or fill in the dark picture areas caused by the brighter main light.

A fast shutter speed may be anything from 1/60 sec. all the way to 1/1,000 sec. depending on the kind of action you want to freeze.

- Fast Shutter speeds freezes moving objects.
- Slow shutter speeds capture the motion of the objects on an ongoing basis until the sensor closes.

be fast enough to prevent camera shake.
If you want to capture fast movment you will have to select a reasonably fast shutter speed. To counter this you will have to select an aperture which will;

As fast as she had appeared, she was gone - knowing in the back of your head that the full length wasn't great, that shot becomes priority number one when she leaves the university.

Very fast film (such as ISO 1000) may be used without a flash even in low light conditions, although the prints may look grainy. In low light conditions with a slower film speed, it is necessary to use a flash for correct exposure.

Use a fast shutter speed (say 1/125 or higher) if you need to capture a fast moving subject. Good examples include a passing car or a bird in flight.

I got the fast primes (f/2 or faster) for indoor horse shows, where even f/2.8 often wasn't fast enough with my 30D. The two long Canon L primes are amazingly good, though not as versatile as the zooms.

FFT - Fast Fourier Transform. FFT filters are image processing algorithms applied to CCD images, usually to sharpen or smooth and image.

If you choose a fast shutter speed, the camera will match it with a smaller f-stop. This will reduce your depth of field. In simple terms, only the area that’s in focus will be sharp and other areas in the photo might come out blurry.
