Fill-Flash
Fill-Flash photography refers a method of taking pictures in which flash is used in bright light to flesh out details located in shadowy areas. Fill-flash is generally used in outdoor shots with full sun.

Fill-flash :
A method of flash photography that combines flash illumination and ambient light, but does not attempt to balance these two types of illumination. Also see "balance fill flash".

Most cameras with built-in flash units offer both auto-flash and fill-flash modes. In auto-flash, the flash unit automatically fires when needed (i.e., in dim lighting).

In case I get a chance to use fill-flash, I pack an Nikon SB-800 and SB-80DX, an SC-17 TTL cord and a LumiQuest Promax soft-box. Severe weather, however, can wreak havoc with lights.

Most of the time you will use them as fill-flash, restoring the color and contrast that is inherently lost as you descend underwater.

G'day Dave. I've never had a problem with my P & S camera along these lines, but when using "fill-flash" for close-ups, I do cover part of the flash lens with a finger to reduce the amount of fill as required to get the light level I want.

1) If ambient light levels are fairly bright (above 13 EV) then P mode assumes you want to fill-flash your foreground subject. It meters for ambient light and uses flash, usually at a low-power setting, to fill in the foreground.

Also if you have a fill-flash capability on your camera, give it a go (especially if it's towards the middle of the day). This can lighten some of the shadows under the eyes and hats -read your camera manual or a book for more info.

Stay within the sensor's dynamic range and get the most appealing color throughout the image. Fine-tune for dynamic range using in-computer software; also, use fill-flash to adjust the scene's dynamic range.

With the windows, strong fill-flash might be the best bet (more disruptive, but it's either that or no shots that work!), in which case neither AEB nor continuous shooting is possible (the flash takes too long to recharge).
