A removable back for the film chamber that adds additional camera controls such as autobracketing and time lapse.

An adaptor that fits onto the back of a large format camera to allow roll-film to be used back. Also used on many medium format cameras to allow film to be changed mid-roll.


With the film back on a flat surface, (with the film chambers face up) it is simply a case of pulling the knob on top of the casing and dropping a roll of film into the right hand chamber. The knob is released and keeps the roll in position.

These alphanumeric codes are separate from the numeric serial number and are usually hidden away somewhere - inside the film chamber of most cameras or on the black light baffle on the underside of many lenses.

That can be a sophisticated film plate exchange system of a magazine camera, an easy-to-load rollfilm chamber, a fast single-stroke film-advance lever, a smart advance mechanism for a film cassette system, an electric fully automatic load-, advance- and rewind-system for a capsuled film type, ...

On this trip I was also carrying a film camera - a Hasselblad XPan - which I discovered upon returning to the UK had somehow managed to accumulate fine Saharan sand in the film chamber; perhaps not surprising until you discover I never actually changed a roll of film while I was in the desert.
