Color can make for images with added impact. Anyone who has ever shot Velvia knows that. In the digital age, the tempting thing to do is to set your camera for increased saturation, but there are better options.

A close examination of the image reveals that these last editing steps have resulted in a decrease in the image saturation.

Fine Tuning (+3 to -3): Color is critical. The basic settings above get you close, but probably not exactly what you want. These fine adjustments allow you to get the exact amount of coolness or warmth. + is cooler and - is warmer.

I prefer to do my fine tuning of the white balance in Adobe Camera RAW on my computer. That way I can really fine tune it and get exactly what I want. Over the years I have become very fussy about getting the right color balance.

The spot meter is a powerful tool for fine tuning your exposure. To use it, start by putting your camera into the manual exposure mode. Next, change your metering mode to spot.

For fine tuning the warmed image, the ratio of the two different warming colors I picked can be adjusted to taste. By default, the Balance is set to zero.

Most of the floating tools are basically fine tuning tools and in some cases the adjustment range is very subtle. However, these tools are very effective. The designers of this program have done a very nice job with this program's tool set.

Advanced white balance settings include highly customizable white balance fine tuning, color temperature adjustment, and post image capture manual white balance selection for perfect pictures in even the most difficult lighting.

A lot of good shooting moments occur as people are getting ready, fine tuning their make up, and going through the motions of the day. Additionally, this is a great time to get up close and personal shots of the participants.

A tripod is needed for smaller apertures used to gain depth-of-field which is necessary for still life and in fine tuning composition.

Normally the maximum height does not include extending the center column because doing so is really for fine tuning or desperate times because it's thought that raising it too high can introduce vibrations.

Once you have opened your photograph, use the magic wand tool (or your other favorite selection tool), to select the area you wish to spot color. This may take some fine tuning if your image is not high contrast.

Much of the creative editing we undertake in the digital darkroom revolves around tasks such as removing color casts (adjusting white balance), increasing or reducing contrast, and fine tuning exposure.

At this level, light becomes a tool very much like paint. You have to learn how to apply it in just the right amounts in order to get the effect you want. No fine tuning means your images stay the same for years to come.
