Flash Exposures Involve Two Exposures.
Strobist Photogaphy

Using Flash: From Shutter Speeds to Red Eye
The most common lighting mistake is using a flash out of range. Typical flash range is up to fifteen feet for film cameras and six to ten feet for digital cameras.

Fill-In Flash
If you have pictures where the foreground is too dark while the background seems to be correctly exposed, then using fill-in flash may be a technique worth learning about.

Compact Flash versus Microdrives

Fill-In Flash
Although making dark places brighter is the primary use of flash, the next-best place to use it, surprisingly, is outdoors in bright sunlight.

Flash is a very fast burst of light used by a photographer to brighten a scene or area of a scene.

A flash should only ever be thought of as a secondary light source. In almost every situation that you will want to photograph there will be some level of existing ambient light.

You already know it is tough to shoot good digital photos in low light conditions without a flash.

Many places are too dark for normal photography but won't allow using a flash... and flash pictures tend to look flat and boring anyway. Here are a few survival tips for such situations.

Flash Modes: One of the ways that lens shutter cameras offer exposure control is through flash modes. This allows you to choose how a scene will be rendered in both daylight and dim light.

Flash
The artificial light souce in the dark. Electronic flash requires a high voltage, usually obtained from batteries through a voltage-multiplying circuit.

Flash
Most digital cameras provide an on-board or built-in flash unit to help balance lighting for low light and night photography situations.

Flash sync
A special socket on a camera that allows the attachment of an auxiliary strobe light for flash pictures. It is synchronized to the camera's shutter so the light goes off at the right time.

Flash Sync
The flash sync speed (usually 1/60, 1/125, occasionally 1/250) is indicated by an X, a lightning bolt, or by a different color. This is ths ONLY speed at which the camera is designed to use a flash or strobe.

flash memory
After a photo is taken, it is stored in the camera as electronic data. The most common storage media is called flash memory.

Flash
I always bring my flash with me no matter where I travel. You never know when it will allow you to get a picture that otherwise would have been impossible to capture due to low light.

Flash
Flashguns provide a rapid pulse of very bright light, which freezes notion. You cannot see the effect when you take the picture and unless you are using a dedicated auto flash unit, you need to calculate the exposure beforehand.
