Flat-Bed Camera
A Flatbed Camera is actually a flatbed scanner that is used to take pictures, rather than scan text from documents.

Flat
Techniques Glossary Flat
Term given to a photograph that lacks contrast because of its minimal tonal range.

Flat- Surface Development.-
The bright border zones between the first and second images can be widened by modification of the second development. Use the same second developer as described above.

Flat files are used by professionals and galleries to store prints. This one is an old vintage model originally used to store railroad maps.

Flat and dull. While the tones in your images sometimes can be described by these two words, simple techniques in your image-processing software allow you to quickly take out the grays and add depth, detail and a punch of color.

Flat Area Noise
Although not distracting the S304 does have some visible 'flat area noise'. As the name implies this kind of noise is most visible on what should be flat / smooth surfaces, it generally takes a fairly random 'speckled' look.

Flat Lighting Lighting that produces very little contrast or modeling on the subject plus a minimum of shadows.
Flip-up flash See "Cobra" Flash.

Flat
Too low in contrast. The range in density in a negative or print is too small.
(see Contrast & Neg.)
Flat Lighting
Soft lighting that produces very little contrast on the subject plus a minimum of shadows.

Flat
Too low in contrast. The range in density in a negative or print is too short or in some cases, reflecting the low resolution produced by a low quality lens.

FLAT LIGHTING - Illumination that provides little contrast on the subject and light or imperceptible shadows.

flat-bed press
a screen printing press in which the substrate is placed on a flat surface prior to printing in contact with a flat printing screen which is attached by a carrier held on vertical posts or in clamshell fashion.

Flat Bed Scanner. Optical Scanner in which the original image remains stationary while the CCD sensors pass over or under it. The scanned image is held flat by the lid hence the name.

Flat.
An undesirably low-contrast image is said to be flat.
Flatbed scanner.

Flat-Light Syndrome *
Symptom: pale faces drained of life. Cure: Modeling.
Flicker (Intentional)
The attempt to suggest sources such as fire. It is easy to overdo the effect and undermine the reality. One reality: TV sets don't flicker.

Flat Bed: A flat bed optical input or output device (scanner or plotter) transfers images by means of a flat plane rather than a revolving cylinder.

Flat gradation - subjective term used to describe low-contrast values.
Flat lighting - lighting that produces very little contrast or modeling on the subject and a minimum of shadows.

A flat file.
Roll of 120 film, you can get it at most camera stores.
Old camera that takes 620 film.
File cleaning brush.

With flat film planes a pinhole has a usable circular image of approx. 125 degrees. The image diameter is about 3 1/2 times of any focal length. The image will fade towards the edges because of the increasing focal distance.

That flat cover glass on the front of the camera over the lens did require some attention though.

With a flat film plane, 90° is about the widest field of view that can be captured with normal sharpness and without significant wide-angle distortion or light fall off by a traditional lens and camera using a single, flat piece of film.

Work the flat sides or the corners first and you won't run into the situation above.
If changing the gradient width use the ALT key modifier when dragging the lines so the selected pin doesn't shift.

Lenses behind flat ports such as the Nikonos 35 mm standard lens change in angle when they are used underwater. A 35 mm lens becomes roughly a 50 mm and a 24 mm becomes a 35 mm. For those of an optical bent, this has been greatly simplified.

Diffusion disk
A flat glass with a pattern of lines or concentric rings that breaks up and scatters light from an enlarger or camera lens and softens detail in a photograph.

Specific to CCD imaging, to eliminate unwanted signal and reduce noise components by subtracting a dark frame and dividing by a flat-field frame. Capacitance 1. The capability of storing electrical charge. Unit of measure is the Farad (F).
2.

Aerial views photographed without a filter may appear flat because of atmospheric haze. This haze may become evident in aerial photos even when the pictures are made on "clear" days.

Holds negative flat and in a fixed position. Can be glassed or glassless. Glass prevents negatives popping or buckling from heat of the lamp but introduces more surfaces for dust to settle on. Top

I recently replaced my Epson 2450 multi-format flat bed scanner. I use my multi-format scanner primarily to scan 6X9cm and 4X5' film. The three scanners that made the final cut were the Epson V700 or V750 Pro and Microtek i900.

focal plane - The flat plane onto which a lens focuses its image.
focal plane shutter - A shutter, usually consisting of fabric or metal "curtains", that operates at the focal plane (right in front of the film).

The latter has a flat image plane where the resolution is quite constant across the entire focal plane. The eye is not like that at all. It has a motion sensor that covers nearly 180 degrees of horizontal vision.

Pictures with a sense of depth to them tend to be more compelling than ones that look "flat." Even if what you're really interested in is the beautiful view, the picture will very likely be much more powerful if you include something close by in it.

While their wings are indeed flat, it is often awkward to position yourself where you can benefit from this fact.

In the audio industry we have low-noise, near-flat response microphones. Why can't we have the same thing in the imaging industry? Scan the transparency into the computer and turn it into whatever you like.

Do you need a tripod that goes flat to the ground? If so, then you may want to look for a tripod that can do this.

Just like you, I would use the body cap epoxied to one end of the pipe, so as to mount it on the camera, and painted the inside of the tube with flat-black paint.

A couple of flat mirrors inside the penta-mirror are precisely fabricated to be 90 degrees sharp, and no image distortion nor deflection is allowed around the area of intersection.

Whether you lay the art flat or lean it up against the wall, your challenge will be to shoot the artwork straight on, without skewing the frame or edges by leaning one way or the other.

So given these multiple non-flat elements, you're claiming that a single flat piece of glass is going to drop sharpness of 20% or more? Or that is stops a WHOLE stop of light?

Make sure the paper is flat and focus in the middle. Again, shoot at all f-stops. When you view the slides, check to see how clear the letters on the newspaper look. Check especially the corners.

Imagine that you've a perfectly flat object (e.g. a wall). If you focus using the center AF sensor of your camera the center focus should be spot on (more or less).

Why Are Some of My Photos Shiny and Others are Flat?
Now that you know who will print/process your images and what sizes you want them to be printed, you need to decide what surface the images will be printed onto.

Surely you've seen the results: washed out pictures & overexposed flat compositions. Now don't get me wrong, the flash photography in itself is not the problem, it can be a very useful tool.

Unfortunately, the image came out flat. To improve the image, the image was duplicated into a new layer (the new layer was labeled as the Contrast layer).

Light which is overly diffuse can cause the subject to look flat and two-dimensional. Landscape photographers understand this well, as it's the flat look created by light which is emitted evenly across the sky on an overcast day.

A general term for high-quality flat panel displays.
TFT-based displays have a transistor for each pixel on the screen.

In this first set of results we see sort of a flat image; it's hard to see separation between the two spurs. And because the lights are illuminating the background as much as the subject, we are loosing the edges of the spurs against the background.

While it was cute it was still a very flat two-dimensional image. Hank and the mushroom were both part of the foreground, while the rest became the background.

-Carrier - frame that holds a negative flat for enlarging.
-Carte-de-visite - portrait photograph on a mount about the size of a postcard. Introduced in 1854, carte-de-visite became a social craze in many countries during the 1860s.

The three images were stitched using a flat stitch, using RealViz Stitcher, although the lack of parallax would make it fairly easy to stitch images like these in Photoshop.
Notice how the shift has kept the verticals of the buildings true.

LCDs use the same technology as flat screen displays. They are one of the best features of digital cameras. After you take each picture you can see if you've cut anyone's head off or maybe half an arm! ...

Hmm, the front's impressive, but, it looks a little flat. What else is there around it . . . (photographer looks around a little) . . . there's some old gravestones, the church wall, some ivy. That could make it a bit more interesting. Bingo! ...

I put a file folder label on the flat side of the battery. So far I've had these labels on batteries for over a year without them falling off. I put a unique number on each label.

With the ambient light being so flat and diffused already, we wanted to create some sense of depth in the shot.
