Focal length
Indicates the magnification and angle-of-view of a lens. The human eye sees things roughly the same as a 43mm focal length of a lens for a 35mm camera.

Focal Length Defined
When parallel rays of light strike a lens focused at infinity, they converge to a point called the focal point. The focal length of the lens is then defined as the distance from the middle of the lens to its focal point.

Focal Length
The focal length of a lens is the distance, in millimeter, from the optical center of the lens to the focal plane when the lens is focused at Infinity. There are two important features to look for in a lens.

Focal lengths of digital cameras with a sensor smaller than the surface of a 35mm film can be converted to their 35mm equivalent using the focal length multiplier.

There's a special pleasure in shooting with primes.

The manner in which light rays are refracted by a lens determines the focal length. This refraction, in turn, depends on the nature of the glass used in the elements, the curvatures of the element surfaces, and the separation of the elements.

The longer the focal length the more jumps the church (background object) towards the lamp - the perspective gets COMPRESSED. On the other hand the wide and especially the ultra-wide angle setting moves it away thus creating DEPTH.

Focal Length Multiplier and Crop Factor
Whether a camera lens is seen as wide-angle or tele is dependent on its Angle of View (AoV); for a particular image size AoV is dependent on focal length.

Focal Length
Focal length is a measurement in millimeters of the distance from the sensor on the camera's face to the focus point of the lens face.

The Focal Lengths Of Macro
Q) I want a macro lens, but I don't know which to choose. I see that there are three sizes available from Canon: 50mm, 100mm and 180mm. Which is best?

focal length = (d)/((m-(1/m))
Example: Lets say the magnification was 6x and the distance the lens had to be moved was 345mm. The focal length of the lens is thus 345/((6-(1/6)) = 345/5.833 = 59.14mm.

The focal length of a lens, usually given in millimeters, is effectively a measure of how "zoomed in" it is.

Short Focal Lengths

Wide-angle lenses can distort objects near the edge of the frame. This is called "barrel distortion".

A prime (fixed focal length) lens is set to one mm focal length. In other words, the focal length cannot be adjusted. If you want to get more or less of the scenery or object in the photograph, then you need to physically move yourself in or out.

Well, it's a function of the equivalent focal length. The more you zoom in, the more magnified the shaking of your hand becomes, and the faster you have to shoot.

Working with Perspective, Subject Distance and Focal Length
Common sense is that wide angle lenses exaggerate perspective while telephoto lenses compress it. But common sense is wrong.

Focal length (expressed in millimeters): This indicates the angle of coverage, or how much of a scene a lens will take in. The longer the focal length, the closer the subject will appear.

Focal Length The distance between the film or CDD sensor and the optical center of the lens when the lens is focused on infinity. On most cameras the focal length of the lens is marked in millimeters on the lens mount.

Focal Length

Before we talk about the hardware side of things when it comes to lenses, it may be best to first discuss the focal length of a lens. Cameras have lenses on them to focus incoming light and direct it towards the film.

Focal Length
Focal Length is the specific length of the lens' frontal glass element going back to the rear element, measured in millimeters. Focal length of a lens also dictates the various image properties of a lens (i.e.

Focal Length
The distance from the film to the optical centre of the lens when the lens is focused on infinity. Focal length on most adjustable cameras is marked in millimetres on the lens mount.

FOCAL LENGTH

What determines the filter holder size is not the diameter of the front thread of the lens, but mainly its focal length.

Focal Length
Focal length is the distance between the focal point of a lens and the film plane when the lens is focused at infinity. It is used to designate the relative size and angle of view of a lens, expressed in millimeters (mm).

Focal length
The most common way to divide lenses is to group them by their focal length. What focal length you need is depending on what type of photos you are going to shoot.

Focal Length
The focal length of a simple symmetrical lens, is the distance between the image plane (e.g. the film) and the middle of the lens, when light from infinity is brought to a focus.

Focal length
Focal length is the most obvious way in which a lens affects a photo: it controls the angle of view, and hence how much of the scene is included in your photo.

Focal Length - Distance from the lens to the film.
Focal Length Multiplier - You can attach lenses made for 35mm cameras to some SLR digital cameras, and this will result in increasing distance from the lens to the film or multiply it.

Focal Length indicates the distance between the optical center of a lens and a video camera's image sensor device. For practical purposes, len's focal length refers to a camera's angle of view.

Focal length. The distance from the optical center of the lens to the image sensor when the lens is focused on infinity.

Focal length
The distance, usually measured in millimeters, between the lens and the focal plane in a camera. As the focal length increases, the field of view decreases.

Focal length
The distance between the film plane and the focal point (optical centre of the lens) when the lens is focused at infinity. The focal length of the lens is marked in millimetres on the lens mount.

Focal length. The distance from an internal part of a lens (the rear nodal plane) to the film plane when the lens is focused on infinity.

Focal length : The distance from the principal point to the focal point. In 35mm-format cameras, lenses with a focal length of approx. 50mm are called normal or standard lenses. Lenses with a focal length less than approx.

Focal Length
The distance from the film to the optical center of the lens when the lens is focused on infinity. Focal length on most adjustable cameras is marked in millimeters on the lens mount.

focal length
A focal length sets the field of view your camera offers and is dependent on the camera lens. Low end cameras give you one choice.

Focal Length: Describes the magnification and field of view of a cameras lens which is dependent on the size of the imaging sensor used.

Focal Length Equivalency: Since most users are familiar with 35mm camera lenses, digicam lens specs are frequently stated in those terms. For example, a digicam lens that zooms from 9.2mm to 28mm would be described as 36mm to 110mm (equiv).

Focal length The distance from the rear model plane of a lens to the focus when the lens is focused at the infinity position.
It is the lens' angle of view, generally bracketed into wide angle, normal or telephoto.

Focal Length.
What focal-length should you use? If you're close to the display, and if you have a choice, go for a "normal" or slightly wide-angle lens.

Focal Length The distance from the principal point to the focal point. Focal Plane The precise position (plane) within the camera body, behind the shutter curtain, at which the light gathering surface of the image sensor is fixed.

FOCAL LENGTH ("35mm EQUIVALENT")- The lens in a digital camera is almost always smaller than in a 35mm SLR (single lens reflex) camera. Because of that the actual focal lengths mean little to those who are already familiar to photography.

Focal length - A term that describes the magnifying power of a lens: the longer the focal length, the greater the magnification; the smaller the focal length, the more wide-angle the lens.

Focal length - The distance between the surface of the camera lens and the sensor array at the back of the camera. The focal length of the camera determines how large the subject appears.

focal length:
The distance from the surface of the lens to the focal point or center point at which light rays converge; the focal length determines the length of the lens.

Focal Length. A lens' angle of view. Such as Wide angle, standard or telephoto.
Focus Assist. Cameras with this send out a light, either normal or infra red to light up the subject to assist with the autofocus in low light or darkness.

Focal Length - A lens' angle of view, most commonly indicated as wide angle, normal or telephoto. Usually compared to a 35mm camera's lenses as in "the camera has a wide angle lens equivalent to a 38mm lens on a 35mm camera." See also "Zoom Lens" ...

Focal length. In a simple lens the distance (typically in millimeters) between the lens and the position of a sharp image for a subject a great distance away.
