If your camera has a removable focusing screen, now's the time to remove and clean it with a microfiber cloth, as you would a lens-but lay off any lens cleaner (as we'll soon explain). No changeable screen?

A twin-lens reflex has two lenses (the twin lens) and a mirror to bounce the light from one of them onto a ground-glass focusing screen (the reflex). Lacking a prism, a TLR tends to be lightweight.

Split-Image Rangefinder A focusing screen focus aid, comprising two prisms with their faces angled in opposite directions. Even a slightly out-of-focus image will appear split, enabling you to adjust for accurate focus.

FOCUSING HOOD - A cowl around focusing screens that shields the screen from light other than the light from the scene being photographed..
FOCUSING MAGNIFIER - A simple magnifying lens that enlarges the image on a focusing screen.

Penta prism: Five sided prism used to give correct viewing of the image and reflect it on to the focusing screen.
