Fog is a great way to create distance.

X-rays can fog photographic film everyone knows that, but beyond that, there is a lot of disagreement on what to do with that information. How much exposure is "safe" and what is your best option to avoid exceeding that amount?
Well said, Fog, the practice should be outlawed. It's so very, very cruel, and stupid, and any sort of sacrifice of live animals should be stopped. So primitive, you wonder what goes on in people's minds, if anything.

Walk with your glasses from the frost into a warm room and have them fog over immediately. The same thing will happen to your camera. Condensation (water) can lead to fungus growth inside your lenses, electrical shorts and other nasty effects.
Weather: Rainbows, lightning, ominous clouds, fog, and snow can all add considerable impact to your landscapes. In order to capture these natural phenomena, a photographer must seek out weather patterns that are less than ideal.

To reduce contrast, a second flash built into the duplicator can be fired to slightly fog the film. Low contrast originals won't need flashing, but high contrast images will be produced too contrasty unless you fog the film to some degree.

Q: Will X-rays at the airport fog my film?
A: They might. Despite notices saying only film over 3200 speed will be damaged by the carry-on baggage X-ray machine, some film does get damaged [Note that there IS no film rated at over 3200.

New X-Ray Machines at Airports Pose Fog Danger
In recent years, conventional wisdom has been that all X-ray equipment used in airports in the USA and most such equipment around the world have been generally safe for film.
In other cases, the weather may produce fog, drizzle, or rain that gets on the lens. All of this can be exacerbated by wind (which always seems to be pointed directly toward my lens).
Fog is one of these events. Sunlight and fog cannot coexist for very long. The sun will burn off the fog. But for those few moments when they embrace each other just after sunrise, magical scenes develop.

Spend years trying to get sharp clear pictures .Now they want fog and less sharpness. I had to laugh .

Do not pull the tape off the film, as it can cause a small amount of static that can fog your negatives. Once all your film is loaded onto reels place the reels inside your light safe tank and close it up.
Compact camera housings more easily fog up after being opened on a boat. If possible, have fresh dry dessicants to place into the housing to help this problem.

Do not pack unprocessed film in checked luggage. The scanner equipment is stronger than the ones used for carryon bags, and may well fog your film.
Outgassing is why you always want to give the prints at least 24 hours to dry before sleeving or framing. If not fully dry, the outgas can fog up the glass in the frame or the protective sleeve.
Skylight-Filter
