The colour on top is your foreground colour. The colour under is the background colour. The background layer is used when making gradient fills, or when you erase something off your “background' layer.
Tools Palette Currently, the foreground colour is set to White and the background colour is set to Black.
Marks on the white background are obviously easy to correct; use the paintbrush or pencil tool with the foreground colour set to white.
