The Median filter noise reduction technique (covered in the previous article) works well with images that have primarily luminance noise.
Gaussian blur
an image softening effect utilizing a bell shaped Gaussian distribution curve.

Gaussian blur. A method of diffusing an image using a bell-shaped curve to calculate the pixels that will be blurred, rather than blurring all pixels, thus producing a more random, less 'processed' look.

3. Use Gaussian Blur to blend the edge between the black and the white in the layer mask. Try something really high, even pushing the slider all the way to the right. You'll be amazed by the effect.
Once you select Gaussian Blur, you will see a dialog box that contains a preview box and a single slider to modify the effect. Basically, the higher the Radius the stronger the blur effect.

Adding Smart Objects to your workflow is a way to bring versatility and non-destructive editing to your intermediate and advanced Photoshop corrections.
Using Filter >> Blur >> Gaussian Blur, add a small amount of blur to the contrast mask layer. Depending on how big your image is, an amount somewhere under 30 should suffice, but you can feel free to adjust things to taste.

Conversely, all bass would be Gaussian Blur. The original sound would sound either brassy or blurry at the extremes. The magic is in adjusting the balance-and that's what tweaking settings and using High Pass Filter can do for a good image.
Once the background is highlighted, use a tool called Gaussian Blur. This is a specific type of blurring routine designed to imitate the blurring that happens in traditional photography.
In Photoshop, you can blur the background by creating a duplicate layer of your image. Gaussian blur this layer to taste, then mask it out. Carefully mask in only the background (a Graphics Tablet is a huge help here).

Diffraction may alter the effective shape of the blur. Some graphics editors have a filter to do this, usually called "Lens Blur",[5] though Gaussian blur is often used to save time or when realistic bokeh is not required.
Open the two images in Photoshop and paste the dark image as a second layer. Apply a little Gaussian Blur and change Layer Options to 'Difference'. You will note that most stuck pixels are now invisible and the image has improved considerably.
