If you like glossy prints, however, the 2200 might not be your best choice. Glossies exhibit a kind of "bronzing" effect when viewed at an angle. This is due to the different reflective characteristics of the Ultrachrome ink and the paper surface.

I do not like glossy screens. Even with best computer the screen is very important. They say it gives you better colours. Why would I worry about colours if I cannot see a thing because of the glare.

Secondly, the glossy screen almost always has more contrast than a matte screen. This makes movies look fantastic, but provides an unrealistic view of your photos.

PAPER SURFACES Photographic papers are available in a variety of paper surfaces, such as matt, semimatt, lustre, high lustre, pearl, and glossy. The use of different paper surfaces depends on the final application of the photograph.

Choose between matte and glossy - photo labs let you choose either a matte or a glossy finish to your photos.

Be sure to use flat black paint, rather than glossy paint that will reflect more light.

As the printer uses dye-sub technology the paper feels like standard photo lab paper (thick, solid with a glossy coat), it won't fade and isn't as prone to damage as inkjet paper.

Ferrotyping is a finishing treatment applied to glossy photo paper to bring out its reflective properties.

Matte or glossy?
Some people prefer matte because it's less reflective - so there's less glare - and because fingerprints tend to show up better on glossy surfaces.

This can happen with any lens that has a glossy exterior. Both Nikon and Canon put colored trim rings on some of their lenses (gold for Nikon, red for Canon), and I usually wrap these with black electrician's tape to eliminate reflection.

Because it paints smooth surfaces like leaves and pavement with a glossy sheen, it lends landscapes and city street scenes a bright, pearly glow and creates deep, saturated colors.

They have a sepia color and slightly glossy surface. Thin sheets of paper were first coated with egg white and salt, then floated on silver nitrate to make them sensitive to light. The image is created by printing under a negative in sunlight.

Second, avoid anything glossy or shiny. Shininess looks wet and greasy in photos. Third, blend, blend, and then blend some more. A high quality, tack sharp 8×10 print will show where a cosmetic product stops and starts, so blend everything in a lot.

Very glossy. Often has nice pictures. Some interesting columns (Rowell, Rue, Lepp, Jones). Equipment reviews are very uncritical and read like product endorsements. Tends to wander off into "yuppie" territory with clothing and 4x4 advertisments.

One of the features of the Epson K3 ink sets is the availability of two different blacks for use with matte or glossy papers. Photo black is for glossy papers and Matte black is obviously for matte papers.

You will also find that Amy's ebook written in an easy-to-understand way. You might have read glossy photography books from famous publishers which are full of technical jargon. Not in Amy's book - it has everything written for the layman.

Photo paper - A heavy paper with a glossy finish specifically made for printing high-resolution color photographs with an inkjet printer.

*Use proper paper for quality prints (don't expect glossy-quality prints from lower grade papers), and always test output when changing paper.

Then work on different papers, as you become more experienced. I have found one paper that is waterproof: it "locks" the printed image under a glossy finish and passes for Hand Finished Slide Photographs when printed correctly.

If the water beads up it does have a professional finish. This finish is very similar to the sealant put on furniture, it can be matte, semi-matte or glossy so it can be difficult to detect just by looking.

A note about backgrounds; although some prefer to paint backgrounds on cardboard, these rarely appear normal in the photo. Instead shoot vegetation/natural backgrounds and use a magnified non-glossy copy as the background.
