gradient fill An elaboration on a fill color consisting of two colors placed at opposite ends of a closed area of an image element. The area is filled with a continuous blend of color intermediate to the two colors and between the two ends.
This demonstration, from Stu Nicholls of CSSPlay, will work in Firefox, Safari and Google Chrome and shows how to style buttons using just the border radius, drop shadows and gradient fills. No graphics have been used in the demo and no extra markup.
The colour on top is your foreground colour. The colour under is the background colour. The background layer is used when making gradient fills, or when you erase something off your “background' layer.
