The Gray Market top
"Gray," also called "import" and "direct import," is when a big camera store just emails the foreign manufacturer or some other source in some foreign country and orders a huge container load of gear shipped straight to them.

 


Gray market. Importing camera equipment outside of the normal manufacturer’s distribution channels to take advantage of lower prices elsewhere in the world.
Gray scale. A series of 256 tones raging from pure white to pure black.

Avoid Gray Market Products

Price Of course you don't want to pay a small fortune for your camera, but beware of prices that seem extraordinarily low. This may be because the camera is refurbished or being sold on the gray market [Sources: Consumer Reports, Taylor].
