Don't grip the camera in a 'death grip'. This reduces your flexibility with your shots and will cause camera shake.

Hold the camera firmly, but not overly firm, with your right hand.

Grip the lens and the camera body firmly to prevent them from slipping out of your hands as you connect the components. Do not force the connection.

1. Grip the right end of your camera with your right hand. Your thumb is on the back right of the camera body; your index finger is positioned to push the shutter release; and your last three fingers fan down the right front of the camera.

Get a grip: Even a just-born infant will grip an adult finger. This is another great way to show a newborn's diminutive size. Get right up close and shoot away! (Also consider photographing a baby's feet, as they are amazingly tiny.

Handle-mount (grip) flash.
Canon sold one large flash unit of this type, the 480EG. It was basically a flash bracket with a massive heavy-duty flash attached to the side. The camera sits on the bracket and is held in place via the tripod mount.

Shooting in vertical format is no excuse for not tucking in the arms
for a more steady handholding.
If you don't have a power grip with an accessory shutter button, turn around the camera.
