Very few photographers use a tripod or monopod to take all their pictures, and even the best built-in anti-shake systems have limitations.

Hand-holding also makes it easier for me to use more than one filter at the same time. I can accurately position the most critical filter in a "P" holder and hand hold a second one, even at a different angle, in front of it.
Hand-holding my Nikon D300S camera and 105mm lens, and with the aperture set to f/8, I fired off a single flash exposure at 1/200 second. As the second image shows, a pleasing "sunlight" portrait of Dennis was the result.
At 25x, hand-holding works, but isn't optimal.
It's best to get a tripod with fine-tuning, micro adjustments or "slow-motion" controls to point the scope exactly where you want it.
This allows the hand-holding of a camera at slower shutter speed (without upping the ISO).
Where to buy: If you need any kind of hand-holding at all, consider buying from a retail location. Fry's here in California is convenient and at least you can return things right away.
With telephoto, depth of field is narrow, the long focal lengths make hand-holding tricky, and you're often shooting subjects that don't stand still.
I have found that MLU does have a positive improvement on photo sharpness, and it has proved useful to me even when hand-holding the camera (such as pressed up against glass in a museum) and using slow speeds.
Kick up the ISO as far as you dare if you're hand-holding. It was said earlier, but don't hand-hold unless you have no choice in the matter.
On the other hand, new clients need more hand-holding. Either they don't understand the service, and are often dubious about it, or it takes a lot of time for you to bring out the best possible solutions for them.

Make sure you shoot with a tripod so that the two exposures overlay accurately (unlike in my hurried attempt, where blurring from hand-holding shows up in the interior shot and rotating / resizing was necessary to realign the images).
The photo was shot using natural light. “I set the f/stop as high as I could (1/40 @f16) while still hand-holding the camera. You could definitely use a tripod here,' adds Wilson.
If you're really worried about image quality you should be investing in a high-quality tripod and never hand-holding. You should also be using medium format or larger.
More seriously, ballheads offer access to pan, tilt and rotate simultaneously, so camera positioning on the tripod is much more like the motions you'd use when hand-holding the camera than with a three-way head.

I often photograph events with the hand-holding arrangement (typically with a “mini' soft box attached to the flash head) but you have to be careful not to block either the slave or the flash sensor with your fingers.

Assuming you are hand-holding the camera (as opposed to using a tripod), a minimum shutter speed of 1⁄60th of a second is required. The large aperture must accumulate enough light to permit that speed.
