Hard Light
A relatively small, direct, usually focusable source, with or without lens, that produces strong High-lights and dark shadows. The quality is more dramatic and controllable, but generally less flattering, than Soft Light.
Hard Disk: A mass storage device for digital data. One or more magnetic platters in a single casing, it can store data more precisely and access it more quickly than other forms of magnetic storage.

Hard and soft light.
The difference between hard and soft lighting essentially comes down to the relative size of the light source compared to the subject. Soft lighting is light which originates from a large area.

Using Hard Drives
After you import your images from your camera to your computer (usually via a USB cable), you should have those pictures stored in your hard drive. Hard drives are pretty cheap these days.
Laptop hard drive (or portable storage device): If you travel with a laptop, you'll need to make sure it has enough room for your entire trip worth of shots. A two week trip with 1000 8MP Raw images is 12Giga-bytes of data.

Another important investment for your digital darkroom is the hard drive. You'll need large space to install software and store digital files. Start with at least a 80 gig hard drive. This should be plenty of space for storage.
Hard edged filters are good for shots where there is a very well defined, straight line transition, like in sunsets or sunrises over water as in the examples; or when you are using a telephoto lens which will soften a hard filter transition.
Hard to believe? It's not. It happens to all photographers who use auto focus now and again. It happens less to pros using single lens reflex cameras than amateurs with a point-and-shoot, but it does happen.

If the image comes out too dark you can select the original (lower) layer and adjust the lighting until the desired effect is achieved.
Hard drive capacity is measured in Gigabytes (GB). So while shopping for a hard drive, the key is to buy as many gigabytes as your budget allows.
HARD DISCS - this is a permanent or semi-permanent storage device for your precious program applications and photo information. Get the biggest you can afford: 66b is the very minimum.

External hard drives
Portable external hard drives, such as the HP Personal Media Drive are also a good option for storing your photos. These drives attach via a USB or FireWire port and come in huge sizes, anywhere from 80GB to 400GB and higher.
This may be hard to swallow but the fact is, taking photographs of small wild animals such as birds for example, usually require an expensive camera lens. This was a mistake I did myself when I first started in digital SLR photography.
It's really hard to pick out one single camera as the the best digital camera as some of the things I might find useful you might not need at all.
