10 Overexpose and blow out highlights to make a high-key image. This will blow out small details and defects, making the image look smoother and the subject’s skin more flattering.
The histogram of a bright, high-key image will tend towards the right. One from an image with a more "average" character will likely be spread more evenly across the spectrum.
If the image is low contrast, you can also tell if it's low-key or high-key from the histogram. A low key image has details concentrated at the dark end of the scale. A high-key image has them concentrated at the light end.
