Image capture is only the first step of digital photography; you need equipment to view, edit, store and print your pictures after you take them. All of these tasks require that you have a relatively powerful computer with a high-quality monitor.
The image captured at your camera's digital sensor is in fact just a central rectangular crop of the circular image being captured by your lens (the "imaging circle").
