Image size
Describes the actual physical dimensions of an image, not the size it appears on a given display device.

Image Size in Photoshop Elements) and make a note of the pixel dimensions (width and height) and the resolution (pixels per inch).

Image Size works essentially identically in Photoshop Elements as it does in Photoshop itself. The only real change is where Adobe chose to hide it.

Image size: The best interpolation method for one size of enlargement may not necessarily be the best method for a different size. Therefore, this article will compare interpolations of the images at three enlargements: 200%, 300%, and 400%.

An image size of 400x300 pixels will fill the screen nicely, giving plenty of room to see the details without taking up the whole screen. We are not concerned with document size since this image is not going to be printed.

At the Image Size menu, make sure that the "resample" check box at the bottom of the menu is selected. Then enter the desired resolution and width/height. For printing an image, a resolution of 300 pixels/inch or more is desirable.

In the Image Size box that appears, ensure that the Resample Image box is checked.
Change the document size unit to Percent.
In the Document Size section of the, enter 110 for the width of the document.

Next, the Image Size was used with a setting of Bicubic Smoother and either 200% or 400% set as the up-res interpolation (Figure 7).

This smaller image size reduces the file size by a factor of two!
If your scanner is creating 100-kilobyte files, then your scanner is probably producing images in an uncompressed or slightly compressed JPEG format.

Image - Resize - Image Size... - Select Constrain Proportions (if not already set ON). Type in your new Pixel Dimensions.
I resized to a Width of 450 and the Height was automatically adjusted to keep the proportion.

The days of smaller image sizes from a digital SLR camera are gone. As the price of digital chips has dropped, a majority of digital SLR cameras increased the image size to be the same as a 35mm negative.

I'll give one more example to help clarify the differences between an image's pixel size, dpi and printed image size.

Image size also has an effect on depth-of-field, as well as lens selection. Depth-of-field decreases as the image size increases at any given f-stop.

Whether a camera lens is seen as wide-angle or tele is dependent on its Angle of View (AoV); for a particular image size AoV is dependent on focal length.

This results in a significant reduction in image size (not often pointed out by manufacturers of such optical devices) and a slight loss of light transmission.

The image size is also bigger and is five times that of the 35mm. One small limitation if you perceive it as a limitation is that you will get 10 frames only in a 120 film roll.

Digital Zoom is a faux telephoto zoom extension in which a digital camera extends the lens's telephoto zoom through increased image size approximation.

There are several algorithms (nearest neighbor, bicubic, bicubic sharper, etc.) that can be employed depending on the type of image data and whether the goal is to increase or reduce file/image size.

The image size of the sun, however, may be a mere dot on the negative. In the NYI Text Camera and Lens is a Chart that shows that a 50mm normal lens has an angle-of-view of 43-degrees.

Simply go to Image -> Image Size ...
Turn off the Resample option and then change the DPI to 300.
It is just a number, that has nothing to do with resolution:
e.g.:
An image of 1200 pixels wide will be 4 inches at 300 dpi or 8 inches at 150 dpi.

When sizing a photo for printing refer to the bottom of the two areas in the image size window headed 'document size'. Here you can select the unit of measure inches, centimeters etc. that you are happiest with and choose your print size.

Also used in measuring image size and resolution, i.e., 640 X 480 is the pixel resolution of most VGA Monitors. (Note pixels are square in computers and most digital cameras, they are rectangular in video cameras and television).

Viewfinder image matches image size on film.

TLRs use leaf shutters, which can sync with a flash at any speed.
TLRs are waist-level cameras.

Megapixels and the largest printable image size: The amount of megapixels a digital camera has determines how large you can print the image. Therefore I've also mentioned below the largest image size each camera prints in pixels.

Unlike resampling here the image size is changed without modifying the resolution. For example if you resized a 10x8in 72dpi photo to 4x6in the dpi would be increased, whereas if you resample youd keep the same dpi.

Drag the new sky into the canvas and press Cmd/Ctrl+T to transform your image size. Hold Shift when dragging a corner pointer outwards to increase the image size proportionately.

This is usually found in dialog boxes concerned with changes of image size and refers to the relationship between width and height of a picture.

With the Speed dial on the top you select Auto mode (Where the default settings are used), Manual Mode (where you can change and adjust Image Size, Compression, Exposure Compensation, White Balance, Contrast, Sharpness or Gain (ISO 100, 200, 400).

VIEW CAMERA - A large format camera - a term that applies to cameras that produce an individual image size of 5" X 4" or larger.

So, for example, if your image is in landscape format, enter the width as 2000 pixels; and if your image is in portrait format, enter the height as 2000. At the top of Image Size dialogue window you'll see the image size before it's been saved.

Life gets more interesting when you get closer to the subject and get closer to the 1:1 image size. A macro lens has a fixed focal length and can produce 1:1 images in addition to focusing out to infinity.

Combined 1x output (no superresolution, noise reduction only)
The resulting image size equals the size of input photographs. This mode does not provide super- resolution, but it is useful to greatly reduce noise with no loss in details.

(Graphics Interchange Format) A file format developed by CompuServe specifically for graphic data. GIF reduces image size without losing important data. GIF and JPEG files are the most widely used file formats on the Web.

Small format-Refers to a small size film such as 35-mm films. The image size is 24 x 36 mm for 35-mm negatives. The sizes of the small format films are: 126, 828, and 110.

Without a zoom lens, you'll be manually moving the projector forward and back to achieve a proper image size.

Measure "h1" (the target size) and "h2" (the image size). Also measure "d1", the distance from the target "A" to some point on the lens. It could be the front of the lens or the back of the lens. It doesn't matter.

The pixel is the smallest part of a digitized or Digital Image.

The upshot of this is that if you use such a digital or APS camera you'll be taking photos which do not record the same image size as 35mm film. So it's like taking a photo using 35mm film and then cropping out (snipping off) the edges.

Close-up lens. An attachment placed in front of an ordinary lens to allow focusing at a shorter distance in order to increase image size.

Compression - A generic term to describe one of the numerous processes whereby data or details are removed from an image to make the overall image size smaller.

Size constancy denotes the stability of perceived size despite changes in objective distance and retinal image size.

The parameter settings for USM sharpening are highly sensitive to the image size and resolution (i.e. pixel distances vary with size) - so be leery of the above recommendations. It is best to experiment and examine the final print output.

A colour television standard developed in Germany in 1967 and used in many European and non-European countries. The image size is 786 x 576 pixels with a frequency of 50 Hz interlaced (2 x 25 half images are generated each second).

Zoom in to 100% view to get and idea if your sharpening is causing artifacts or a "halo" effect. Again, the sharpen setting will vary a bit based on your image size and intended output. Now let's get out and shoot! ...
